The Nichols brothers, Matt & Jeff, grew up in Ames, Iowa where their love of cooking, good food and a sense of family and community was nurtured. In the summer of 1996, they opened the original Brothers Restaurant in Solvang, which they soon outgrew.

Services
JC's Bar has a history that goes back to 1968 when owners Lloyd and Clara Borkman remodeled the restaurant and founded The Brand Room, creating a popular meeting place for all the local ranchers. To inaugurate the bar, the Borkmans invited the ranchers to a party where they could bring in their irons and mark their brands on the specially designated beams for posterity.
Specializing in local wines from the Central Coast, Matt Nichols has curated a list of nearly 80 wines, nearly all from Santa Barbara County, along with a selection of Champagne. The list is diverse, concentrating on the local AVAs. Matt Nichols is also developing a comprehensive library of wines that he has secured from a handful of local winemakers and friends for the Red Barn cellar.
We're the "other" wine country. With more than 24,000 acres of vineyards and over 100 wineries, most of which are small, boutique and family-owned, we think there is something here for just about anybody. Four distinctly unique appellations, superb food, leisure, recreation, art, history and most of all - open spaces and friendly people.

This restaurant came highly recommended to us by locals. We were happy to try for a special dinner, our 26th anniversary!
The servers were friendly and attentive, and the food was top notch.
Why the 1 star review? We got TERRIBLY sick that evening, and for the next two days. Vomiting and diarrhea! Non stop! Ruined our vacation to Solvang as we weren’t able to leave our hotel room. (Covid wasn’t a concern as we’ve been completely vaccinated)
The only thing my husband and I both had, was a Manhattan. We each had just one and when it was brought to us, had dark foam floating on top. I had

I love trout and the soul. Probably my favorite dishes here..The drinks are delicious. One of the female bartenders refuses to bring her mask up over her mouth and nose. She always wears it on her chin and I think that’s unfair to all the rest of the workers who wear a mask to protect everybody..That’s selfish to the rest of the staff and customers. Other than that food is really good it’s got a sweet local atmosphere..

Consistently the same great meals and service. I have been going to this restaurant since they were at the Mattei’s Tavern location and have never been disappointed. Lots of great restaurants to choose from… when in SYV but this one is by far, the best. Whether you’re in the mood for steak or seafood or just a great salad and a little bit of the local wines, they have something to please even the most discriminating palate.

Got the special, 16oz prime rib, came w/ mash & green beans. The latter was the best on the plate, mash was decent, steak was lacking seasoning overall, tasty but much more meh than it should have been. The roasted garlic dressing on the salad was thin & very low on the garlic, that + some parm & lettuce=salad. Not worth the $.

We Hosted an event there Thursday! Have to say......absolutely phenomenal from stem to stern. I am a corporate event planner, this was a personal rehearsal dinner for our sons marriage.
I couldn't have been more thrilled. I was a pain with tons of questions and requests. Tere, the event manager was spectacular as well as the staff. Matt was our head server. All were amazing. Food was incredible, I'm still getting compliments. 14 of us returned the next night for dinner again! 10 stars!!! Thank you!!

A quick walk over from the Santa Ynez Inn where we were staying, Brothers Restaurant was a wonderful find. The subtle exterior hides a vibrant interior with a great energy and amazing food. The service was warm, friendly and very helpful. Our food was out of this world good. I ordered the "small" prime rib, it was cooked perfectly, and portion size was more than enough. My husband got the salmon, again so good!, so much that we kept stealing food off each others plates. Highly recommend!

Excellent service. Mediocre food for the price I'm paying. My lamb steak was nicely done but could be more lamb-y in flavor. My husband got the fish which tasted okay - he thought there was too much seasoning for the whole dish which usually means masking of the freshness of the dish. The sides of the dish could do with asparagus or something besides a few string beans and a couple of carrots with mashed potatoes. Not sure if $12 for a dish of corn soup was worth it lol - don't get me wrong, it WAS delicious. The table bread was unique and delicious and went well with the soup.

The food was very good, the wait staff attentive, timing was perfect. We had the french onion soup which was red wine based but was among the best my husband has had. We had springs rolls which were just the right amount of spicy with an Asian salad also very nicely done. I had the stuffed roasted chicken, amazingly seasoned, served with mashed potatoes and green beans and carrots. My husband had the 12 ounce prime rib which was nicely done again served with mashed potatoes and green beans and carrots. And we had to finish it off with a raspberry and chocolate truffle dessert. I was looking forward to try out this restaurant, nice website and social media page. My burger was not measure up with the $18 price tag. Sloppy bacon, overcooked Kobe beef and really lack of attention of detail presentation. Sometime quantity does not equal quantity.
Two star for the food but four star for their services (friendly and attentive).
