Society's disapproval for alcohol and drug abuse finds no greater recipient for stigma than an addicted professional including physicians, pharmacists, lawyers, executives and others. Positive Sobriety Institute (PSI), based in Chicago, Illinois, is a leading substance abuse treatment center with both a drug and alcohol treatment program.
Alcohol abuse is a primary, chronic, progressive, and often fatal health problem for all of society, not just for the professional community. Alcohol use disorder has specific symptoms that can be fueled by unmanageable stress, work demands or poor relationships. If left untreated, alcohol use disorder can and will worsen.
Drug abuse and addiction is a serious issue for professionals in the workplace, most importantly for those with a responsibility to render services under a safe environment for their clients such as healthcare providers. Many well-educated, highly trained and experienced healthcare practitioners lose their families, careers, and futures to drug use and addiction.

I can best describe this program as weak and lacking in direction. There is no discernable coherence to their methods which left me feeling lost in the shuffle. There is also no escape from the obvious financial bilking this PSI does. Lastly, PSI's elderly "expert medical director" went medical school in Guadalajara, Mexico back in the 70's when such programs not only lacked prestige but were often highly suspect. Overall PSI is unimpressive, ineffective and excessively expensive. It is quite odd that, in an ostensibly professional situation, the medical director's wife and son also run the place

This rehab program did not serve my partner well in any way at all. I could go on and on about PSI's deficiencies. But to spare you that I'll just advise looking at rehab programs that are not run by an incompetent, greedy husband/wife/son team.
My partner went to another program which was comprehensive, compassionate and effective and... its been working!
Best of luck !

It's frustrating for me to read reviews from disgruntled patients, so I will counter.
Been a part of Positive Sobriety Institute for over two years now, and they gave me back my life and the lives of countless doctors and individuals. This program truly cares and treated me with dignity and expertise.

I was at PSI for 3 days before my counsellor even sat down to meet me personally. During that time I was thinking, "when is this going to start". I'm here, ready to start my recovery process. But I needed someone with experience and expertise to show me the way. Instead, for days nothing happened. All I did was their mandatory computer personality tests and the other computer tests they require for their own research. I waited...I worried...My partner worried too...Nothing was happening. I was ready to move forward.
When I finally met with my assigned counsellor I was told, "You are in denial

I write this review with much gratitude to the Positive Sobriety Institute. When I entered the program, I was in desperate need of help. although I denied it. I was introduced to Dr Dan Angres and Kathy Angres (a world renowned addiction specialist.) I went through the program both in Georgia and Chicago. They were able to diagnose the root of my problems, through their treatment, care and concern. Throughout the past 6 years, the Angres's have always been there for me for any problems, questions or concerns I may have had encountered. I went to one meeting at the ADA to listen to 26 groups, similar

When I read the rare negative reviews about PSI, especially when they include character assassinations, I can't help but feel sorry for the person that wrote the review. I have only "positive" experiences and statements to report. This is a one in a million program that really cares - been through enough of them to know. They hang in for the long haul too. With tons of expertise and talented staff. Wouldn't be here without these folks and this program. Keep up the tremendous work, work that is recognized nationally because there are patients there from other states.

I am a health care professional who spent ~8 weeks at PSI in 2019 for opioid dependence/abuse. My experience there was very good in most every way.
-felt welcomed by the empathetic staff & therapists.
-no loss of phone, computer, etc.
-nice offices/environment.
-nice living situation - right across the street w/amazing city & lake views from above the 50th floor.
-relieved to find the group overall was "good people", and in particular had several other health care providers and professionals.
-medical and psychological support for early sobriety was very good.
-Chicago offers many, many

My experience at PSI can be described in so many ways, but the best way to sum it up is healing. PSI is not just a rehab institute, but a family (both literally and figuratively), who welcome each client with warmth, support, and empathy. The program at PSI provides not only amazing support for their clients’ recoveries, but also important education centered on successful recovery. The holistic treatment provided by PSI has led me to a successful recovery in which their support has been vital-- a sentiment I have heard mirrored among many of their other clients.

As a physician no one ever wants to admit that they have a substance abuse issue. The physicians and staff at PSI were extremely comforting upon entering the program. Although it is not an experience I would wish upon anyone I did find the program to be enlightening and educational on many levels. I continue to attend an aftercare program for support and am extremely proud to be nearly 18 months sober. I commend the staff for their dedication and support and recommend the program to anyone who WANTS to change.
