World Yoga Center
We are very proud of the World Yoga Center. Decades after we opened our doors in 1972, we are still here at our original address. Only Yoga has been practiced in our beautiful space and the atmosphere here is unusually pristine and serene. The name "World Yoga Center" was inspired by the International World Yoga Symposium held in New Delhi, India, in 1970.

Our name reminds us that the teachings and practices of Yoga are universal, embrace divisions of East and West, and have become compatible with modern living. Yoga provides transformational knowledge that radically awakens us to the mystery of life. This underlying vision and the deep intention of Yoga sustain the World Yoga Center and drive it forward.

Found this sweet little studio the weekend I dropped my daughter off at college. What a perfect place to do some yoga and get grounded and decompress after a busy, emotional weekend!! Susan's class was just what I needed! I will be back whenever I'm in the city visiting!

Best yoga center in the city. We have such a beautiful community of people at WYC. Wonderful teachers. There is always a connection with mind, body and spirit in each class. Meditation Monday’s with Rudrani are life changing. I also really enjoy her yoga classes. Jackie is a great teacher as well. I enjoy her Sat morning classes. There is also a handful of talented yoga teachers to choose from during the week. The school has been there for 47 years. That says a lot 💗

I've been to a lot of studios and yoga classes in NYC. From the moment I walked into the World Yoga Center in 2011, I felt embraced, cared for and like I was 'home'. Between the owner, Rudrani to the beautiful flock of teachers and students who now make up my community, the small room on W72nd St always feels bigger than it actually is and fuller than your heart can imagine. There's a reason the WYC has been in existence for 45 years.

If you're looking for a sweet studio with a genuine feeling of community look no further. They've been in the same location for 45 years for a reason! Really, I think this is the best yoga studio in NYC. The teachers are all kind and knowledgeable. All of them will guide you through class so you're both comfortable but also challenged, ultimately strengthening your practice, no matter what your level of experience is. I can't say enough good things about the World Yoga Center.

In the best way, World Yoga Center reminds me of the yoga I did in California before I became a New York transplant. It has what many NY studios are missing -- a sense of community, a focus on the practice, and the sense that what you're doing is about more than just a workout. Julia Pearring brings heart and fantastic energy to her classes, and Jackie Prete is an alignment master. Looking forward to more Anusara-style yoga in their warm, inviting space.

This place feels old school and legit. The class I attended was tiny and I was surprised that the teacher called out students by name. It was a little more explicit attention than I was used to, but it was also really specific and great. It felt a little more like a workshop and I appreciated that. If you are looking for individual attention to help deepen your practice, definitely check out a class here.

I attended yoga classes here several years ago when my schedule permitted, and I can say it was some of the best yoga instruction I ever got. World Yoga Center is not trendy, it was established over 40 years ago by a dedicated yoga professional and is focused on sharing yoga with students, training new yoga teachers, and offering other opportunities such as retreats and monthly satsang. The space is small but immaculate, and it is conveniently located near 72nd street subway and bus lines. If you are curious about yoga or want to attend classes that also feel like community and are really welcoming

I've done yoga at various places around the city on and off for years, but have never committed to it fully as a practice. There's something so approachable and welcoming about this yoga center that before the class was even done, I knew I would be back - and often. Our instructor (Jana) was warm, encouraging and helpful in talking us through the poses and making adjustments as needed. I also like the meditative elements which Jana incorporated beautifully into our session. I'm grateful for the inspiration today and for a place where a beginner can feel so at home.

Hands down the best classes I have ever been exposed to. Beyond the fact the classes are semi private, the instructors are not only highly competent they just truly care and take the energy to make small adjustments that make such a huge difference. I have not practiced in years and am impressed by Jorge's and Alice's classes.

Four years have passed since I wrote this review. WYC celebrated its 40th Anniversary. I attended the school's year long immersion, followed by its year long teacher training. And now I substitute teach at the school and assist my trainers. The school has evolved as well, uses computers and yes, indeed, credit cards! (Just bear with me when I'm doing intake!) Briefly we even had some water bottles left over from the Anniversary, but don't worry, they were not replaced once we sold out.

This is my yoga home, for years now, and that's what this place becomes for many people

This place exclusively offers Anusara yoga, which is the style that got me hooked to yoga in the first place. For the unfamiliar, lots of alignment (less injuries/overstretching), muscle energy (workout), and heart/chest opening action (your shoulders will love you) can be expected. It's not as aerobic as flow/vinyasa classes, but still a really good sweat session.

I love this studio because the teachers tailors each class based on the level and knowledge of the students in class that day, and give variations for each need. If you're a regular, they will know what you're capable

I took two open classes with Julia. One was a regular open class and the other was the Christmas Eve open. I need to specify this because Julia mentioned that the Christmas Eve open (which was more focused on stretching and opening the joints) was a departure from her regular teaching. I just want to say both classes were great. As she led us through practice, Julia took pains to carefully describe each asana, along with how specific muscles and limbs would be affected. Although she was regularly at hand to correct or offer modifications, just following her descriptions alone allowed me on more

World Yoga is top notch! It is a small studio on Second floor of a building. Not flashy but simple and comfortable. They have mats, blankets, blocks, straps everything u need....just show up.(I bring my own mat but they spray theirs down after each use so they are clean) Instructors are intimate and take the time with each student and especially liked how she took the time to review techinique instead of barreling thru asanas to get maximum effectiveness. I didnt know a soul there but today the instructor paired us up at one point for poses and made a "forest" for tree pose which was

World Yoga Center is a truly unique haven in the heart of NYC. The teachers are extremely dedicated and knowledgeable, and are able to customize every class for each individual, regardless of how many students show up for the class or what level is listed on the schedule.

If you are interested in practicing yoga for the body AND mind benefits, you should not miss the WYC.
