As a pediatric dentist, Dr. O'Callaghan has two years of additional specialty training following his four years of dental school.
During his residency, Dr. O'Callaghan had extensive training in infant oral health care, trauma management, cavity risk assessment, growth and development, interceptive orthodontic management, administration of sedation medications, treatment of children and special needs patients in the operating room, and general restorative treatments.

At Gaines Pediatric Dentistry, our goal is to set the foundation for your child to have lifetime of good oral health. We offer specialized and comprehensive dental care for children of all ages, from infancy to adolescence. We know how important it is to keep your child's smile healthy and beautiful and are fully equipped with a state-of-the-art facility to do so.
I was born and raised in West Michigan and am thrilled to be able to live and work here. I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we are busy at home with two sons and a daughter. I attended dental school at Indiana University where I graduated in the top of my class and was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.
My name is Megan and I am a dental hygienist. Even before I realized I wanted to be a dental hygienist, I knew I wanted to work with children. I started my education at Calvin College and later transferred into the Dental Hygiene program at Grand Rapids Community College. I am excited to be at GPD to watch the kids grow, overcome their fears, and learn how to grow up with a healthy mouth.
Your baby's teeth will typically start to erupt when he or she is around 6-8 months. Girl's teeth often erupt slightly earlier than boy's teeth. Once their teeth start to erupt, start brushing them with a soft baby toothbrush twice a day. Most children will benefit from the use of fluoridated toothpaste.

Receptionist was not very kind. Very rude. Very short. Didn't inform me of our options and basically kicked us out of the office without even telling us.
However, after speaking with multiple different staff and Dr. O'callaghan himself I am very pleased to know this was a one time occurance. A misunderstanding. My kids love this place and I am very pleased to know we will be returning to their office. I've recommended them to many people and will continue to do so. Great job Gaines Pediatric Dentistry!

They were so kind and good with my son! They didn’t degrade me as a parent or make it seem like my son’s teeth issues were 100% my fault! They were good with explaining things out in a way that I understood and actually made me feel like I was getting my money’s worth!!

My son who was born at 23.3 weeks had his first appointment ever with this office. The reviews speak for themselves! Not only was the doctor able to get into his mouth with his former extreme oral aversion, but he and the staff were great to him. The visit was I formative and time efficient.

Awesome experience, my daughter was very nervous for her first dental visit, the fun environment and toys helped calm her fears. When she got in the back the hygienist and assistant did a great job explaining what they would do and helped calm her fears as well. Dr. O spent extra time with her to ensure she was comfortable before doing the exam. Would highly recommend to everyone!

Took my 10yr old son here for the first time. The experience for him was non stressful. The hygienist was very friendly and explained everything she was going to do prior to doing it. She communicated well with him and myself. The dentist was awesome as well, very patient with the kiddos and speaks directly to them. Great experience would definitely recommend!

My kids had a hard time at other dentist offices. We tried a few of them and my daughter especially never felt the trust and comfort she does here. I am so happy we found a great dentist office for my 4 kids. The ladies there are all very nice and polite and they will always try to schedule your appointments to fit your needs. The dentist is also great with his patients. I definitely recommend this dentist office.

Gaines Pediatric Dentistry is one of the best dental offices I've ever taken my children to. They have always been super kind and inviting! My kids enjoy going to the dentist and always want to know when they can come back. Dr. O'Callaghan is very knowledgeable and I trust him with my children's teeth! Excellent dental care. The staff is courteous, the Dental Hygienists are great with my child and the Dentist is great also. He always comes and checks my child's teeth after the dental hygienist gets done cleaning. My son loves playing in the waiting room. It's a really nice office that is clean and organized. Overall just a great place!

I am so happy we switched to this office. All of the staff members are friendly and great with kids! Dr. O'Callaghan is very kind and explains everything well. My kids loved their visit! My son was scared at first due to a previous dentist and the assistant calmly worked with him to ease him and reassure him. My son actually said he wants to go back! Plus, they have a great area for the kids to play before they are seen. I highly recommend this dentist office!
