At Gracie Jiu Jitsu our priority is to help you and your family learn a real-life self-defense martial art, get fit, and increase your confidence. We welcome all levels of BJJ from beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels of grappling. We welcome men, women, teenagers, and children to our self-defense classes.
Our instructors come from a pedigree of the best Jiu Jitsu practitioners in the world. Professor Regis Lebre and Professor Marcus Norat, both 4th degree black belts come from a lineage that includes Royler Gracie, the first "King of BJJ's Featherweight Division" winning 4 World Championships. With so many martial art choices why should you choose Gracie Jiu-Jitsu over the rest of them?

At GRACIE LA MESA, we empower any student with the necessary tools to achieve their goals whether they are training for physical fitness, self-defense, recreation, or to become a champion competitor. We seek to train the body, mind and spirit by teaching the highest level of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in a positive and safe environment.
KIDS SKILL LEVEL All kids must sign up consistently when signing up for gi and no-gi. For example, if a child is a yellow belt with the gi he must also sign up as a yellow belt in the no-gi competition. You cannot sign up a child for one belt (Yellow) with the gi and another belt (Orange) on the no-gi day.
Students: please take some time to review and familiarize yourself with the dojo rules and glossary of Jiu-Jitsu terms. Classes begin with a formal bow to the instructor with students lining up in order of descending rank. When the instructor is demonstrating techniques during class, every student must sit in seiza position.
Back Mount or Rear Mount - This is a position where a student has control of another student from the back (i.e. a student is face down with another student straddling his back). Break Fall - A technique to "break your fall" when thrown or falling by slapping your arm on the ground and properly positioning your body.
The Gracie Fundamentals program consists of a continuous 16 week course designed to teach the overall self-defense strategy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. How to breakfall. Clinching. Take downs. How to set up and apply a submission hold. Escapes. This repetition in technique will prepare you to begin drilling at full resistance in the next program, Intermediate.

Gracie La Mesa was my home Jiu-Jitsu Academy for the last eight years! It was more than just s a n academy, it really felt like family. It saved my mental and physical health and kept me healthy. I earned up to a third stripe on my purple belt under professor Regis Lebre. I got to train under black belt professors regularly and even world champions. Whether you have ever tried BJJ or if you’re experienced, definitely check out Gracie Humaita, Gracie La Mesa. Professor Jason Proctor is the owner and will take good care of you. I moved out of state and am sad that I won’t be getting my brown

Been training here 5 years come June. Gracie La Mesa is a great gym for me because everyone here is a family and they make you feel welcome. The instructors are great and the students will help you with whatever you're having a hard time with. There's even a one week free trial for those interested in trying out the class!

By far the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in La Mesa! Both my daughter and son train here and love it. There are plenty of classes to attend and the instructors are amazing. They are always trying to help the kids. Nothing but positive energy at this dojo. There are NO CONTRACTS. Very rare for any martial arts or self-defense studio to do that. They also have 1 free week of training to anyone who wants to try it out first. Training is available for kids, teenagers, women, men, newbies or experienced folks. Talk to Jason and he will help you out!

Both my son and daughter have been doing their self-defense training at Gracie Jiu Jitsu La Mesa for about 6 months now. Both my children love coming here and is a great way for them to learn a practical martial art. The instructors Jason, Marcus, and Clay all have been wonderful with all the kids. They make the classes fun, but the discipline is always there. They grapple every day which I think is important. If they should ever need to use Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in real life, it won't be anything new to them. They have a kids class and junior class for kids. They also have adult classes which my

I started my son in classes to keep him active , add discipline and the ability to rough house in a safe environment. Coach Jason allowed him to train for a week, and then told me to bring him back in 6 months. Although I was disheartened, I was happy he wasn't just looking for another paying student. The instructors are firm, fair and most of all fair. Each class ends with sparring and then DODGEBALL! The kids love this! When coach Jason asks, "what's the only rule in dodge ball??" The kids in unison reply, " IT'S NOT FAIR!" My son learns that sometimes you lose, which I feel is a very important

I have been going to this school for about a month and a half now and I love it. I hadn't done any physical activity for about 2.5 YEARS. I felt fat and old. I didn't want to get another gym membership, it just seemed too boring.
I realized I needed help to get back in shape, I needed someone to kick my butt. This school is close to me and since it is a Gracie school you know its got to be good.
Sure enough, I got whooped my first class (and still do) but it beats a day lifting weights or running like a hamster on a treadmill any day. Plus, I have noticed my skills improving and I am losing some
