Dr. Chmiel was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario where she received a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors. She continued her education receiving her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 2004 at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York.
Your first visit to Firefly Orthodontics will take about an hour. During this time, we will introduce you to our team and show you around the office. We will ask you to complete a medical health history form, take photos of your face and teeth and complete an evaluation of your teeth during this complimentary consultation.

63 years old and put on braces today! Wow! But, this is not why I'm writing to you; I just want to give a huge shout out to Dr. Monica Chmiel and her partner in crime (her assistant). Dr. Chmiel guided me thoroughly from the beginning until now. She made sure I was comfortable with all the communications and more. I do have one minor complaint: she said I cannot eat popcorn! Oh NO!! LOL Oh well, I just look forward to when I can in a year or so!

I am usually writing a Yelp review to throw shade at someone providing terrible service. In this case, I am doing quite the opposite. Dr. Chmiel is just a wonderful person. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't like her. She is friendly, warm, affable, and personable, someone who is perfect to work with kids and teenagers. She is extremely professional, everything from her practice, her office, to her team.
I took my son, who just turned 13, to Dr. Chmiel for a second opinion about his orthodontic needs, after he had refused to get braces from an orthodontist we had seen earlier (he was turned off, which I agreed, by an office manager asking him to choose which braces even before the orthodontist checked his teeth

Dr. Monica Chmiel is professional, accommodating, and very sweet. Her practice is in a beautiful convenient location in San Francisco with a private secure parking lot. I'm happy to drive across the bay for my treatment. She is extremely dedicated and provides excellent customer service and care to her patients. I had the pleasure of meeting her handsome husband and beautiful child during one of my visits - it's refreshing in this day and age to to see such a collaborative family effort.

We are very happy with Firefly Orthodontics and Dr. Chmiel. My son has a very complicated dental situation (missing adult teeth, overbite, delayed permanent tooth eruption) that will involve 2 phases of braces. Dr. Chmiel was very patient in discussing treatment options and listening to my questions. We left another orthodontist due to my concerns being brushed aside. I also love the convenient West Portal location and free parking!

It was a late Friday afternoon, the start of Labor Day Weekend and my father was getting x-rays at his dentist, Dr. Jones, for his trigeminal neuralgia. Dr. Jones needed my father to go downstairs to Dr. Chmiel, the orthodontist, because they have a wider X-ray machine. Dr. Chmiel was extremely gentle and kind to my father, who was suffering from terrible face pain. She was explaining to my father what she was doing through the entire procedure of taking pictures. Dr. Chmiel took us back upstairs to Dr. Jones and the 2 doctors reviewed the x-rays..
