In 1988, Taekwondo was introduced into the Olympic Games as a demonstration sport in Seoul, South Korea. It was a demonstration again in 1992. In 2000, Taekwondo was recognized as an official Olympic sport. A major focus at Big Sky is to provide our students with the competitive training and mindset to become National and, one day, Olympic level competitors.
The purpose of competition, in any sport, is to develop higher standards of performance. It is understandable that not everyone has an interest in competition. Big Sky also offers a curriculum, for ages 5 years and up, in: Traditional Taekwondo, Self-defense and conditioning. We strive to offer our students an unforgettable life experience through Taekwondo training.

Once again, words cannot express how proud I am of our competitors and students at Big Sky. Also, I am extremely grateful to all my parents. What a whirlwind of events this past week. It has been a long but exciting week. It began with Stephanie competing at the USA Taekwondo National Championships in Minneapolis, MN last weekend where she won the Gold Medal (National Champion) in sparring and Bronze Medal (3rd place) in form.
Stephanie had the great opportunity to train at the U.S. Olympic Facility in Colorado Springs for Taekwondo. She stayed on campus for the entire week and got the entire Olympian experience. She was being coached by the USA Taekwondo coaches and training with black belts from around the country, including current and former U.S. Team members.

Master White is simply the BEST! We looked at almost all options in Lubbock, but Big Sky was so obviously hands down the best option that looking further was no longer needed. I just wish we had started here. He is everything you want in an instructor. Practice is appropriately paced and he genuinely cares so much for everyone, it is very much a family atmosphere, which is optimal for kids and adults alike. You would not regret trying this school.

I’ve been a student for 3 years now. You really develop a new family there. Everyone is kind and wants to see you progress. He fully prepares you for any competition you may want to partake in but doesn’t mind if they aren’t your thing. Creates a fun atmosphere for all his students!!

Authenticity is often difficult to find in martial arts schools. Big Sky Taekwondo is an exception to this! Master Jay White is a great teacher. He balances rigor with fun. Expect important self-defense lessons, a great workout, and much support; whether you are a beginner or high level competitor. This is an amazing school with a very supportive community.
