Just minutes from the Brandywine Valley Inn, the museum houses a collection of collections - more than 89,000 decorative objects made or used in America between 1640 and 1860, including furniture, textiles, clocks, silver, needlework, porcelain, Oriental rugs and paintings.
Although less than 30 years old, the Brandywine River Museum of Art is a place with plenty of tradition. That is, of course, the Brandywine tradition, a rich artistic heritage that began in the late 19th century with the distinguished artist-illustrator Howard Pyle. The works of Pyle and his students make up a large part of the Museum's permanent collection.

Nemours is the former 300 acre estate of Alfred I. du Pont, named after the du Pont ancestral home in north central France. The Mansion is an excellent example of modified Louis XVI French chateau. It was designed by Carrere and Hastings of New York City and was built between 1909 and 1910 by Smyth and Son of Wilmington, Delaware.
