In 1940 Richard Hungerford began providing funerals for families in a Bedell St. home in Freeport, NY. During this time it was common practice for funeral directors to host wakes and memorial services in the home of the deceased. Mr. Hungerford recognized the need to assist families in their grieving process in a facility specifically designed for this purpose.
No matter if a death is sudden, or if it something that was a long time coming, the loss of a loved one makes us feel emotional and overwhelmed. No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering.
When a loved one dies, the anxieties and stress of making funeral plans can be an overwhelming emotional responsibility. In addition, the costs involved can leave a real financial burden on your surviving family members, especially when they are least prepared to deal with additional worries about money.
The death of a loved one, friend or family member often puts us in touch with our own thoughts and feelings about mortality. All of a sudden we realize how quickly life can end. It is normal to feel out-of-control, and overwhelmed. Realize that you are grieving. Feeling tired and irritable. You may experience insomnia or feel tired all the time.

We have had several family members interred with Hungerford & Clark - and let me tell you- it doesn't get any better than them. They couldn't be more empathetic and caring and knowledgable about everything having to do with my sister's, and my Mother's situation.
