Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also known as rehabilitation medicine or physiatry, is a medical specialty targeted at maintaining, enhancing and restoring function as well as quality of life in individuals with physical impairments or disabilities.

Our physicians, specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation, focus on a "functional approach" to care more so than many of the other healthcare providers who are in search of a medical "cure".Our goals are to maximize independence in activities of daily living (eating, grooming, dressing, toileting, hygiene, walking, etc.) to improve quality of life.
Services
Oklahoma Spine, Sports and Rehabilitation, a division of NeuroScience Specialist, PC, is comprised of four board-certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians, known as "Physiatrists."

Physiatry is a specialized branch of medicine that employs the usual tools of medical practice as well as physical agents and therapeutic exercise for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of disorders that produce pain, impairment and disability.
Oklahoma Spine, Sports & Rehabilitation was the first physician group that entered the Neuroscience Institute. The Neuroscience institute is easily identified as the glass pyramid building on the North East side of the Mercy Hospital campus. Construction began in 1996 and was completed in 1998. Our office, Suite 118, resides on the main floor allowing easy access for our patients, many of whom have impairment or disability.
The pioneer of PM&R is Frank Krusen, M.D. who recognized the need to assist patients with impairment and disability through physical medicine, meaning prescribed treatment for pain, range of motion, flexibility and strengthening. Treatment emphasized the use of modalities such as ice and heat as well as physical therapy for functional restoration to improve quality of life and prevent additional disability.
The physicians at Oklahoma Spine and Sports and Rehabilitation offer a number of services within the outpatient facility. Our physicians commonly provide in office injections for painful joints (shoulder, hip, knee) as well as trigger point injections. Electrodiagnostics (nerve conduction studies & EMG) are also performed at our facility.
