At DCCNS Cooperative preschool, our mission is to foster social-emotional and academic development through a child-led play based curriculum, while also supporting parents and creating community through conversations, events and experiences. Currently (2020-21) enrolled students (students who have paid an application fee and deposit) may apply for a spot for next year.
If more students apply than there are spaces in a particular class the Board will follow priority procedures and hold a lottery if necessary*. Current student application fees and deposits will be waived for the 2021-22 school year. DCCNS will open registration to siblings, alumni, and the general public.

Services
DCCNS is a child-centered, play-based preschool offering several multi-age programs for children between the ages of 2 and 5 years, who are ready for a group experience. DCCNS is a non-profit, parent co-operative preschool staffed by certified, early childhood educators. The teachers provide a planned, developmentally appropriate, hands-on curriculum.
A cooperative preschool provides a healthful and varied environment in which children can develop socially as well as physically, emotionally, and mentally. Parents see and work with other children of similar ages, become aware of some common behavior patterns, and have the opportunity to learn alongside other parents, sharing challenges and joys each parent has with their own preschooler.
Abby has been a preschool teacher for almost 20 years and loves being a part of children's first school experience. Abby grew up in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and studied Early Childhood Education at Santa Barbara City College before getting her degree in Art History from UCSB. She moved to Davis in 2001, meet her husband Corey and they have 3 children, Elliot and Oliver are DCCNS alumni and Lily started her preschool experience in Fall 2017.
The DCCNS Board is the decision making body of our school. The Board, along with the school's executive director, meet each month to discuss topics such as class registration, school budget, fundraising efforts, and class-specific issues, as well as any other current issues affecting our school.
The purpose of the Board is to support the staff of the preschool, act in the best interests of all children, and ensure the long-term health and survival of DCCNS.Parents are also welcome to attend any board meeting to express any ideas or concerns they have about the school. For the 2021/2022 school year, we will have openings for our Fundraising, Treasurer and Vice President Positions.

What are the parent co-op commitments exactly? Parents work together to build a positive learning community for their children. Each family has a family task, works as an event assistant, helps with our annual fundraiser, attends 3 work parties, and attends 5 parent education meetings. Parents also rotate working in their child's classroom.
