Mossbrae Hotel
Never heard of it? That's o.k., most people haven't. If you've ever been in the bay area and needed to drive to Oregon, you probably zipped right passed it. Located on the Interstate 5 under the shadow of Mount Shasta, Dunsmuir harbors ghosts of gold rush outlaws, east coast blue-bloods, railroad barons and century old speculators willing to bet it all in this stunningly rugged beautiful tumultuous landscape.

In modern times it calls to outdoor nomads, seekers of spiritual quests, individualists and is a Mecca for fly fishing purists. Dunsmuir is in a tight river canyon with a village of 100 year old bungalows and a downtown pulled right out of a central casting movie set. How on earth did such a small town end up with so many multi-story buildings?
Services
Pacific Crest trail hikers are flocking in to Cornerstone Restaurant after a great day on the trail. There's also so much to see when you visit Mossbrae Hotel, our local eateries are second to none. So, take your time, keep scrolling down the page, take a look at restaurants nearby and learn a few more about Dunsmuir.

This is probably the best hotel I have stayed at, especially for the price. The bed was extremely comfortable, they have 2 different thickness pillows (and firmness) so no matter how you like to sleep you should be taken care of. The bathroom is nothing short of luxurious, and he in floor heating in the bathroom is the cherry on top. The sound insulation between the rooms is great and the floor does not creak when walked on. (You can still hear when people walk in the hallway, but it's a minimum). The hotel has been renevated to the nines and def makes for an amazing experience. Definitely make

Loved Mossbrae Hotel! Thoughtful hospitality with all kinds of nice touches like a battery LED lantern next to the bed, white noise machine, hot water kettle, etc. in addition to all the typical hotel stuff. I had some special requests which they accommodated very thoughtfully. The rooms are gorgeous. Dunsmuir is a completely idyllic and peaceful small-town mountain setting with a cozy stillness in the winter. Highly recommend.

I love this place!
Was originally looking for a place to stay in Shasta, but this came up and it's so close that we figured why not. So glad we did!
Our first stay was in May and we just stayed again last week - both times there were wonderful.
The first room we stayed in was room 1 and this room faces the street and is definitely on the larger side (good if more than 2 of you ). This last time we stayed in room 6 which is at the back of the building - smaller, but more than enough room. Both rooms were decorated/furnished beautifully. Beds were super comfy and everything was spotlessly clean

What a lovely surprise! Cafe Maddelena's is a favorite destination for us. We decided to take stay overnight and found the Mossbrae Hotel. The decor was contemporary and tasteful. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The hot water took a few minutes in the shower. The room was large and airy. We were greeted warmly by the receptionist and provided codes for access. We heard no noise from other guests or the street. A peaceful night's rest. We will definitely be back.

While situated in a rather depressed small mountain-town of Dunsmuir in a small building off main-street, this hotel is extravagantly beautiful. Rooms are well appointed and outfitted with all manner of features and quality.

I really liked my one night stay in room 3. Make sure you are fit enough to climb the grand staircase with your bag. Very well done renovation. TV was not getting signal but to my good luck the housekeeper was still at the hotel and made sure all was in order before she left. I was rolling down the Five Portland to Palm Springs on a Monday night so the village restaurants I'd read about were not open . The kids at the pizza shop next door fixed me up with a decent pie so all was fine. I'll do the proper weekend stay here one of these days.

I love the atmosphere of this hotel. I stayed in room 3.
It feels luxurious while also being invitingly homely. The bathroom looks great. they provide bars of soap, shampoo, body wash, body lotion, conditioner, a shower cap, makeup removing wipes, cotton balls, q-tips, and a makeup washcloth.
They have heated tiles in the bathroom, you can set them to change temperature on a schedule in case you need to wake up early. The fixed shower head is close to seven feet high, so it's great for taller guests.
The only negative would be the window is pretty much just for light, the view isn't great. I

Stayed in Room 2 on a recent Monday night. Very nice and spacious with a fine decor and finish. The town was a bit closed down, but we found some decent Mexican food just down the street. We’ll be back.

I recently visited friends in Dunsmuir and stayed at the Mossbrae Hotel for a few nights.
I stayed in Room 5.
I was very happy with the room and that it didn't face the street. So it was very quiet. There's only 7 rooms. There's a flight of stairs to get to the rooms except room 7 on the first floor.

Someone mentioned the ants.
I was given a spray bottle with natural ingredients to spray at the ants. I definitely recommend not having any food in the room.

It's very easy to park on the street in front of the hotel. I left my car in the same spot and didn't get any

I have stayed here twice now (in 2019 and in 2021) and love this little hotel. It's so quaint and the rooms are very nice, with beautiful decorating and very modern bathrooms. The memory foam beds are very comfortable. Hotel is very clean and quiet.

I would have rated this higher, but we got up and left very early because of the ANT invasion (on the wall, on the kitchenette counter, in my handbag). Apparently, we heard all of Dunsmuir is having an ant problem because of the dry weather and the drought is not helping any of the businesses.

I booked my reservation through Booking.com. I have not seen this place before and wanted to avoid my husband's favorite because it's too rustic for me. Plus, we have never stayed on the downtown side and my husband had no clue this side of town existed even though Dunsmuir is one of his favorite

What an awesome hotel. We stayed on night in the ground floor ADA room. Very spacious and comfortable. The room is beautifully decorated. Great Air conditioning which was needed because it was 104 degrees out. A number of restaurants are walking distance. The clerk at the front desk was very nice and helpful. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!

Wow, what a great place!

My experience with mom & pop hotels has been really hit or miss. The good places are really good, but the bad ones are really bad. At least with huge chains, the experiences are more or less consistent.

But this place is way up at the top of some of the favorite hotels I've ever stayed at.

The room was extremely modern looking and comfortable. It had hardwood floors, the mattress was very comfortable, and the sheets were so soft!

On top of that, the bathroom was probably the largest one I've ever had in a standard hotel room - 2 sinks, a soaking tub

A lovely, clean hotel placed right in between Mt. Shasta and Castle Crags. The perfect getaway for someone looking for a more quiet experience than the larger hotels and resorts in the area will provide. Dunsmuir is a small town but has some great low key food options for its size, both the Brewery and the Mexican restaurant in town are top notch.

Horrible experience ever! I choose this hotel because it said they're open for 24/7, and always can be reached. But what's the truth?
1. No staff, no call!
I made a reservation and arrived around 11pm, the door was locked and there's no staff there. No entrance password mentioned in the confirmation email, so the only thing I can do is call them. I tried for like one hour at midnight and no response at all!
2. No passcode!
I checked all emails I received, never mentioned about the entrance has a passcode and didn't provide the passcode for customer who made reservation

We just returned from a weekend at the Mossbrae hotel. They have seven rooms, 5 upstairs and one on the main level. Upon Check in we were greeted by a very knowledgeable and welcoming host. She gave us a tour of all the rooms. She explained how the door locking system works and the code for the room as well as the main door. Parking is street parking and signs are posted three hours only during certain hours, but we had no problem parking in the space. She also told us about the area as well as restaurants and places to snowshoe. Her knowledge and friendly manner were very professional

Great accommodations with stylishly decorated, well-appointed, and CLEAN rooms. Anything that runs on electricity appears to have been updated quite nicely (lighting, AC/heat, bathroom in-floor heating, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker). Traveling during a pandemic is weird enough, but with contactless check-in, coded keypad entry to all doors (no keys needed!), and hand sanitizer everywhere, this gem of a hotel allays any traveling trepidation. Will definitely return to stay on my next overnight trip fishing the Upper Sac!

We stayed here for a 25th wedding anniversary. This is such a special place. It's beautiful and clean when you walk in. They offered contactless check in. They texted us with our own code to get into the lobby and our room. Lots of history that's so charming. The rooms are spacious and clean and modern. The innkeeper ,or maybe owner I'm not sure , is really friendly and has great recommendations for restaurants and history of Dunsmuir. The only thing I would say is there is a train close by. If that's going to bother you ,this might not be the place for you. We found it quite

Due to a family emergency I had to drive from California or Oregon, with the whole pandemic thing I was pretty worried, do I sleep in my car, a possibly dirty dive hotel? That's when I found mossbrae hotel. It was SO CLEAN and easy check in for late arrivals like myself. I was able to actually get amazing rest on my trip without a single worry, on my way back a week later I stayed here again, I had mentioned I would be late as the drive was taking a little longer than I hoped... around 11pm I walked into my room with the TV on, relaxing music playing. I was exhausted and it just gave me such

Fantastic! The deluxe king studio is superb! We stayed in room 2 and it was nothing less than fabulous. The room has a modern mild rustic feel and was airy and clean throughout. Very cozy. The air and heating systems were all modern. Often on road trips we don't have many options when driving through rural towns. This hotel came up as available on our way up to Mt Shasta. Needless to say, we booked it immediately. A bit on the pricier side when you think about where you are but so worth it. All around are no frills for $100+ so this was a gem!

There are only 6 rooms total and we were in

Absolutely adorable hotel. Dunsmuir is adorable and this hotel is no exception. They've remodeled it beautifully and didn't spare on fixtures or on the interior to include heated floors in the bathrooms - very well done!

We stayed in room 1 (pictured). Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely stay again!

We were looking for a place to stay with our 2 teenage boys on the drive up to Bend and I'm so glad we found the Mossbrae! The hotel is really beautiful and we all loved it. Cute places to eat within a block and beautiful scenery all around town. This place was great for one night, but would be even more amazing for a romantic getaway! If you're looking for a hotel anywhere near the Dunsmuir area, this is it.

Comfy beds, beautiful bathroom, spotless and every detail is perfect. Heated floors and Robes, yes it's really that awesome.

3 weeks new after 14 months of renovations. Brand new everything charming boutique hotel. I found it very earthy and comforting and never wanted to leave the room. Stayed in the California king comfortable large bed, down comforter, beautiful materials and decorations. Restored wood floors from the original building excellent shape gives the property a hard to find warmth these days. This small town is in the shadows of famous Mount Shasta standing over 14,000 feet tall, when I visited in October it was blessed with beautiful white snow visible for miles. The hotel is centrally located in this
