The atmosphere was nice. We thought it strange that the wait staff were wearing Hoodies (a little too casual for a nice sit-down dining place, but hey, it was winter). No points deducted for that though. We ordered the fish and chips (came recommended by the hostess), linguini, and the harvest salad. The fish and fries were so stale and overcooked that we couldn't eat them. We've never had fish that dry. We did mention it to the waiter, but we don't think it went any farther than him. When we left,, he acted like everything was great (very nice guy btw). The linguini and veggies were also overcooked

Got there and there was only 1 large party ahead of us, we had 2 in our party, and another small party of 2. We were seated right away, but soon noticed that all of the wait staff, save one waitress, were more interested in standing behind the bar area and chatting, than waiting on their customers. We ordered an appetizer, grilled zucchini, as soon as we sat down, and about 10 minutes later ordered our entrees. We didn't get the zucchini until 40 minutes after we had ordered it, and after waiting over an hour for our entrees that never came, we finally just put some money on the table and walked

I was in town for a wedding and came to this restaurant the night before with a large group of people and they graciously accommodated us with no complaint. The service and the food was superb and the drinks were delightful.

Arrived with one other party inside and a 8-person party of our own. We were told there was a 15 minute wait, with the entire restaurant open, save the one table in use. That's fine, there looked to be minimal back house staff, so with the 8-top, there is an expected wait.
Once we got our table, we sat un-greeted for 15 minutes while I looked upon 6 of the staff behind the bar just chatting. We we were still 8 of 20 people in the entire place.
Our poor server was also bartending, but she was pretty good for how she was the only one serving customers. With that said, we didn't get any service

Gourmet yet classic Americana food. They put a little extra touch into their dishes. The fried okra tasted like it was straight from the south. We also tried the pretzels and beer cheese which were fresh, homemade deliciousness! For our main course we had the bison burger with garlic fries and the volcano burger with the side cesar salad. Both were delicious, juicy, and flavorful. The drinks are fun and not poured with a light hand. We ended up getting the Old Fashion and Rose Cocktail. We could only do one because they were pretty strong. Any more and we wouldn't have been able to walk outta the

I really enjoyed the food, drinks and ambiance of this mountain town bar. Local feel but very warm environment and good service.
I had the Brussel sprouts, well cooked in a balsamic sauce, heavy but really good. Then the mushroom flatbread which is on a gluten-free cauliflower crust, the toppings were delicious but the crust was under baked. Then a Caesar salad which was good. I would for sure come back and eat/drink here again!

We stopped in for dinner at the Axe and Rose during our visit to McCloud. The food was great, and the atmosphere was perfect! Such a cozy cabiny feel. We got a burger and fish and chips, as well as beer and a yummy old fashioned! Definitely worth a stop if you're in McCloud!
