I'm a first-time home-buyer, so I wasn't sure what constitutes a good inspection. After speaking with folks afterward, I'm fairly confident this was not one of those.
As mentioned by another reviewer, he had a handy test-for-water-damage tool he carried around. I was really confused when he stopped using it halfway through the inspection. He didn't even pull it out in the back bathroom. I asked him about it a few times, but he seemed so confident in his dismissals that I let it go.
The big one, though - The extent of his electrical inspection was to look at the labels

The entire process was seamless from scheduling the inspection to receiving the electronic report less than 24 hours after the inspection. Dov was extremely thorough and explained everything he was assessing and how his assessments were made. The individual scheduling the inspection was very helpful and everything was done electronically including payment and the final report. Would highly recommend NY Inspect.

We used Dov to inspect our home before moving into it. He was very thorough and detailed, about 32 pages in total with specific suggestions and highlights. The report helped me see where we needed to add reinforcements in the home and where we needed to of make significant improvements. Areas such as the basement and a bathroom. I was very happy with the information I received and was able to use it when consulting a contractor.

I was very pleased with the quality of Dov's inspection. He was very personable and clearly quite experienced. His thermal imager found a moisture leakage in the roof that was invisible to the naked eye, which probably ended up saving a lot of repair money down the line. I would absolutely recommend him as a quality home inspector.
So why not 5 stars? I originally scheduled the inspection online and was quoted a lower price than the inspection ended up being. The prices were apparently out of date, and to his credit he has since disabled the feature, but I did feel a bit misled at the time

Dov, is super efficient and has equipment that the other outdated guys do not. He uses infrared cameras to check the quality of studs, search for any leaks or any abnormalities throughout the inspection.

NY Inspect has been unbelievably flexible with us and helped us out in an urgent need for an inspection. We contacted them on a Friday with the request to do an inspection on the house we wanted to sign a contract for over the weekend. It was that urgent, because we were not the only interested party. Dov from NY Inspect came out on Sunday afternoon, did a very thorough inspection and answered all our question in a very friendly and patient way and sent us a 41 page report just a couple of hours later on Sunday night.

Unfortunately I found the inspection to be superficial in many respects. Large portions of the report were boilerplate with little customized text of recommendations. In fact some of the boilerplate options hadn't been properly selected/edited, and the report said "The windows have wooden frames. The windows have metal frames." There were fewer photos than I have received in other reports which would be an issue for people not in attendance. The inspection of the mechanical systems was also limited mostly to "surface" observations. In many ways for the somewhat knowledgeable

Be weary!!!! I completely regret using their services for they took advantage of my ignorance to the inspection process (aka first home). Upon inspection of my heating cooling and hot water heating (10 mins into the inspection) he said they were not turned on. To which I said should we postpone this? He said not unless you want to pay me again to come back claiming he could visually inspect anyway and no big deal. It was a big deal and 3 different companies have stated upon visual inspection these unit were installed wrong and that the issues were obvious and hazardous without needing to be turned

I have to agree . Dov inspected an apartment I am trying to buy in Harlem. He missed substantial water dame in a bathroom. When I got keys to inspect myself , found cockroach issue and the damage. I did two things
1) took photos immediately and 2) took a screen shot of his customer satisfaction on his website.
I sent him pictures and he updated his report indicating items should be repaired. ( to date my seller refused to acknowledge this new report )
This updating of the report is a de facto admission of his error. I asked for compensation and ran into a brick wall.
He even consulted with

From what I can tell, Dov did a great job inspecting our apartment. He was prompt and very knowledgable about the area and the historic building. He educated us on certain aspects of the inspection, which I appreciated, and kept and open dialogue with the Super. The inspection report was very thorough and provided us with a good template to give the seller. I also appreciated being able to pay with a credit card online.
