We are licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education, and we follow the learning principles and early childhood development practices of the Howard County Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum. Peanuts/peanuts butter snacks are not allowed, and neither are items made in a facility that also processes nuts.

If a child has additional allergies, those foods are not served to any children of that class. Hands and mouths are wiped upon entering the classroom. With one of the smallest class sizes for co-ops in Howard County, your child receives individual attention and is able to progress at his or her own pace.
Services
We use the Little Treasures curriculum in our four year-old class. This curriculum is one of six curriculum packages approved by the State of Maryland. In the two-year-old and three-year-old classes, we follow the learning principles and early childhood development practices of the Howard County Pre-Kindergarten Curriculum, which is based on recommended practices from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Through a wide variety of "learning through play" activities, we expose children to language arts, music, mathematics, social development, and science. Each child's progress in all areas - social and emotional skills, language arts, math, problem-solving skills, and physical development - is communicated to parents at regularly scheduled conferences as well as on an informal basis (at pickup/drop-off, email, phone, and etc).
WLCN is the best co-op in Howard County! My family and I have been a part of the school for 6 years with 2 children and we have loved our time there. The curriculum is the perfect balance of play and structured learning which has prepared both of my kids really well for the transition to elementary school.
You'll participate, along with the teacher and assistant teacher, to help your child adjust to this major step away from home. As a member of the co-op, you will observe and participate in your child's development and enjoy close communication with the teachers and other parents. Mothers, fathers, and even grandparents are encouraged to participate as fully as possible.
No, toilet training is not required. We do ask that each child have a back up outfit available in their cubby in case of accidents. It is the philosophy of WLCN that many, if not most, discipline problems can be prevented by adequate supervision and appropriate planning.

The staff and co-oping parent will work together to ensure, whenever possible, that undesirable behavior (teasing, grabbing, hitting, name-calling, etc.) is re-directed before a more serious problem occurs. Our goal is to provide a positive approach to discipline for each child. Discipline will be used to teach and guide, not punish the child.

My family is so grateful to the teachers of Wilde Lake Children's Nursery. My child has learned so much through his time at the school so far (mentally, socially, emotionally) and we are so excited to see how he continues to grow and learn there in the 3s and 4s classes. We absolutely intend to send our daughter to WLCN as well, as soon as she is old enough for the 2s class.
My husband and I thoroughly researched all the co-op style schools in the area, visiting as many as possible and WLCN stood out to us from the rest right from the beginning. We were able to visit and stay through an entire

This is my son’s 2nd year with Wilde Lake Children’s Nursery. He enrolled initially in the 2s class with no prior consistency in a social or class setting. The teachers were patient and kind during his adjustment of being at school and away from home for a couple hours. With time he soon loved and anticipated going to school to see his friends, to play, and spend time on their playground. He learned so many things in just 1 year that he was able to take and apply at home. His speech dramatically improved by the end of the school year. WLCN also adapted once the covid pandemic hit and the teachers

When my husband and I were researching local preschools for our two-year-old daughter, we were immediately impressed by WLCN. They were the only co-op preschool in the area that allowed us to sit-in during an entire class to make sure it was the right fit for us (all the other co-ops we looked at only had short open houses where we could never truly get a feel for what went on during actual class time). The WLCN teachers went above and beyond during that initial class observation, creating a welcome sign for our daughter on their front door, including her in circle time, and making her feel as

I couldn't be happier with this wonderful preschool! It is a true cooperative environment where families work together with the teachers to create a positive learning experience for all the children. The teachers are very welcoming and kind, and provide many opportunities for learning through play, which is truly the best way to learn for this age group. All three of my children have been to WLCN, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a preschool.

Both of my children attended Wilde Lake Children’s Nursery. We loved it here!
It is a caring, supportive environment. The Director and Lead Teacher both have degrees in education. The teachers are pro-active in handling all types of little personalities from understanding quiet kids and getting them engaged, to providing high-energy children with plenty of stimulation. The teachers really care about the emotional growth of the children. They encourage children to use appropriate words when there is a conflict by helping quieter kids to sort their feelings and verbally express them, and also

We are going on our second year with WLCN and I couldn't be happier. The teachers are fun and energetic and truly care about each student - and being the co-op parent is a real joy. It's really nice to have such a small classroom setting where everyone can get to know each other.
As a stay at home mom I really enjoyed being able to drop my son off for a few hours a few days a week, it was a nice break. I was a little concerned in the beginning on what being a co-op parent meant but it's not as scary as it seems. If you're unsure of what a co-op school is I strongly urge you to give it a try.

We were so lucky to find WLCN when we were searching for a Pre-K program for our daughter. Ms. Carren and Ms. Jessica in the 4’s class were a dream duo; they are kind, nurturing, and very knowledgeable in their application of the early childhood curriculum. We especially loved how they handled social emotional learning and their ability to redirect and teach social skills - it is so important to find teachers who model problem solving and compassionate social emotional competencies. The teachers put a lot of hard work into monthly lesson planning, and it shows when you volunteer in the classroom
