Himalayan Institute Of Buffalo Yoga
Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 40 years, the Himalayan Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga. Our next 300-Hour program begins in February! Join artist and educator Donna Stepien for an afternoon of hands-on interactive journal making.

This CEU workshop will help yoga teachers understand trauma in its many forms, how traumatic experience can be housed in the physical body, and how this can be addressed within the context of yoga in the safest manner. We will move through an asana practice designed to progressively develop Uddiyana Bandha, apply it in classical yoga postures, and culminate with the master practice of Agni Sara.
Services
The Himalayan Institute of Buffalo is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1974. Our aim is to promote health, self-awareness, and spiritual well-being through the practice and teachings of yoga. Our programs are open to all and there are no membership requirements to enroll in classes.

As a volunteer organization, our students and staff generously help us maintain our facility and accomplish the many teaching and administrative tasks that keep us active. We offer classes, workshops, and a variety of other events and programs throughout the year. A free brochure, mailed bi-monthly, contains all our programs - and you'll find them listed on this website as well.
Start from where you are. Our classes are taught over several weeks to systematically introduce postures and develop strength and flexibility. Adaptive Yoga: This class will involve modifications to traditional postures using a chair, the wall, and blocks in order to find physical balance, alignment, and ease.
What should I wear? Comfortable non-restrictive clothing is recommended (t-shirt & sweatpants). Please refrain from wearing any fragrance; someone in the class may be allergic. The classrooms are carpeted, so to help keep them clean we ask you to take off your shoes before going into class. Do I need a yoga mat?
Buffalo yoga students founded the Himalayan Institute of Buffalo in 1974 under the guidance of Sri Swami Rama of the Himalayas. Raised and trained in the mountains of North India, Swami Rama came to the West to build a bridge between the wisdom of the ancient sages and the scientific accomplishments of our era.
We offer various levels of Hatha Yoga classes. Each class provides effective training in asana, stress management, and holistic living skills. Having trouble registering? See our tutorials. We are happy to bring you online, in-person, and hybrid classes. We have over 20 online yoga classes available each week in a wide range of styles and levels.
