Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. It is a derivative of early 20th century Kodokan Judo, which was itself then a recently-developed system (founded in 1882), based on multiple schools (or Ryu) of Japanese Jujutsu.
It promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person using leverage and proper technique can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant using joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat an opponent.BJJ can be trained for self defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition.

Founded as a martial arts system and not merely a martial arts style, Kuk Sool is not limited to any single discipline. It attempts to be a comprehensive study of all Korean martial arts. I wanted to find a place to get my Jiu jitsu fix while down for a week on vacation. After a little bit of searching I found Capitao who looked like they had a solid line up of instructors. Went to thier early morning class and I was impressed. Awesome group of guys who were very welcoming to a passing drifter and the instruction was top notch. I would definitely train there anytime I am in the area.

I've been training at Capitao for almost six years now. Danny, Daniel, and the rest of the instructors are all full of knowledge and very invested in the growth of their students. I truly believe it is the best place in the area for me. I've spent countless hours in this gym and it's not always easy but I can think of little else I'd rather be doing than sweating with my teammates. The gym is always clean and the atmosphere is right for me. If your in the area and need a place to train or want to try out a martial arts swing on by!

Our son has been training for going on 5 years and we couldn't have asked for better instructors. Not only do they mentor inside the gym but they hold them accountable for their actions outside the gym as well. If you're looking for a gym family, great classes, convenient class times, and strong relationships look no further. We consider them and so many of the families that train here our own family.

I’ve had a great experience training at Capitao since early 2018. The knowledge is very high level, the instruction is tailored and based on experience and the instructors genuinely care about the growth physically and mentally of all the students. The gym is always clean and the atmosphere is fun yet professional. If you’re in the market for martial arts training - make sure you take up Capitao on their free trial.

I've attended this gym for three years and honestly can say that this gym and team saved my life. Being military and going through many challenges in my life, I have found a home here. The professors, coaches, and teammates from this gym are all awesome. If you haven't trained before and need a place to develop your skill-sets or if you have trained and need the competitive edge, this is the place.

My daughter has been training Jiujitsu for over 4 years at Capitao and she loves it. Watching her grow in experience and confidence has been great to see and it’s because of the mentorship she receive from the professors there. I also train there and it’s been an outstanding. All the professors and coaches are awesome, they have a plethora of experience and are able to teach pretty much anyone who wants to learn. Both my daughter and I recommend going to Capitao Jiu Jitsu and MMA 🇺🇸

I took lessons here when I was just a little younger with Coach Silva. Coach Silva was very knowledgeable and seemed to not only know, but to also care about how I was taking care of myself physically and mentally. He also knew how to get the very best out of me while I was totally exhausted.
Overall, the gym itself was always very clean and well kept. All the instructors seemed friendly and smart with their crafts. I couldn’t recommend the place more

This is a double review as it details my perspective as a parent of a child attending Capitao and as a member.
My daughter, Evelyn, started training here when she was five. She's seven now. In two years, I've seen an incredible transformation in her.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu isn't easy and is a lot of hard work.
Capitao has helped Evelyn with the following:
- Work Ethic/Setting Goals. (Hard work and vision pays off.)
- Staying Calm Under Pressure. (This is a skill that will help in all aspects of life, not just Jiu-Jitsu.)
- Handling Disappointment. (Developing a realistic plan to deal with obstacles

Ive heard good things about this gym so I went down one evening to give the class a try. They were having some kind of party for kids so I patiently waited my turn at the front desk for the head instructor Danny to come. As I went to go shake his hand and greet him he gives me an angry look and says "what do you want?" I told him I wanted to sign up for classes. After going through the waiver and walking to the back I get talked down to for not having gear or coming prepared. Well this was my first time here and nobody has offered me any instruction so I don't know what to say. The

My initial assignment for the Air Force was Eglin Afb for the years 2009-2012. I wanted to start training bjj and was recommended to check this gym out. To say this gym is awsome would be a huge understatement. Not only did I find my passion in life, jiu-jitsu, I also met teammates that will be friends for life. The instruction is superb and 1st class. They have produced champions of not only bjj but MMA as well. Judo classes are also given. The instructors, fellow vets, Danny and Daniel, worked with me whenever I needed to adjust payment schedules due to being on tdys. Whenever I am back in town

When I first received orders for Eglin AFB multiple folks I trained with in Guam told me to go to this gym, so I knew it had to be legit. When I first showed up sign up was easy, I even signed my six year old daughter up the same day. The first couple of classes were pretty rough, but good because it was great to be on the mats again. Now a year and a half later I'm still there, my daughter is still there, and my 5 year old boy is there now. My kids love it and its a great way for them to burn off some extra energy and learn some discipline. More importantly they are learning solid self defense

I came in knowing nothing about BJJ or other martial arts. I immediately felt accepted by the training staff and the experienced students. Danny Ruiz and Daniel Silva are so knowledgeable, yet are friendly and down to earth. This gym was highly recommended by former coworkers. I finally took their advice and tried it. I should have done so sooner.

I've trained here at Capitao Jiu-Jitsu for a little over in seven and a half years and between all of the military current or prior that passs through and join, everyone is treated with every bit of respect and didn't do that they deserve. Both of the instructors our current military and spend a lot of their time working with outside agencies the at the police department or other charitable organizations to help give back to the community. Not too long after I joined I became part of the family and I couldn't ask for a better set of people to be associated with.

I was stationed at Hurlburt Field in 2012-2015. I was assigned to the 23d STS as a CCT and had combat experience and had done some kickboxing in Holland prior to this. With the uprising of mma, not only in our PT regimen, but in mainstream fitness, I felt compelled to learn how to grapple more effectively. The first time I walked through the door at this place, the head instructor Danny Ruiz gave me the rundown like he was having a really bad day. I passed it off as exactly that and came back for a trial period. I attended one the Gi Jiu-Jitsu classes ran by another guy named Daniel, who was very

My job takes me many places in the world, and I had looked many years for a gym to bring my family to for training. After looking for several years I found Capitao. The quality of the instructors are equal or better to the top gyms in the world. There is an incredible environment for kids and adults. Everyone is treated with the respect that is given. This gym does require you to work hard, and earn everything you get which is one of the best things about the gym. I highly recommend to anyone that believes in working hard to earn what you get and desires world class instructions.

Capitao MMA and jujitsu truly is a great place to train. Danny Ruiz runs the best gym on the emerald coast hands down. The coaching staff is professional and extremely knowledgeable. The instructors range from professional MMA fighter, BJJ black belt, national college champ, judo bb, and former world champion kick boxer. The curriculum they teach works! They have a very clean facility. In five years I haven't had any issues with cleanliness. It's a welcoming place for everyone men, women, and kids all train here. Whether you just moved here to just vacationing all are welcome to train

Hands down the best BJJ training and teammates I have experienced in life, and I am a world traveler. Don't just take my word for it - step on the mats and immediately receive hands in coaching from not one but two black belts who are not there to be idolized, but are there to be a part of your growth as a BJJ player, MMA fighter, and overall person. I've you have trained BJJ you know how rare 2 black belts under one roof is. Plenty of high class lower and uppers belts, kids program, and female grapplers. If you are in the NW Florida area you absolutely cannot miss this opportunity! Do
