We salvage logs from the thousands of hardwood trees that are felled every year in and around Seattle. The logs are milled into slabs, and generally kept as wide as possible, up to five feet in width. Slabs are air dried for up to three years, and then kiln dried. We typically use only a clear finish to showcase the natural color and textures of the wood.
We strive to show nature's beauty as simply as possible. We are the artisans; nature is the artist. Walnut, and especially black walnut, is our most popular reclaimed wood, with its rich and varied colors. Elm, madrona, and maple are also featured hardwoods, each with its unique character. Owner and craftsman Donald Smith interacts with every tree and log, finished piece, and each customer, individually.

My wife and I stopped by one day after seeing the signs for live edge funiture. We explained what we were looking for because we had specific dimensions and interest. Without hesitation Donald pulled out one unfinsihed grey board. He scraped off a bit of the grey to show us the beautifl rich color of the piece. It was exactly what we were looking for. A short time later we had our kitchen table, it is more than than a dinning table. It is a center piece as you walk into our home and without exception when someone comes in for the first time they stop and point out the table and comment on how beautiful

Terrific quality and unique, amazing pieces of art. Owner was incredibly helpful, knowledgable, and accommodating. He delivered my table all the way to West Seattle from his shop in Ballard. I'd recommend anyone in the market for a one of a kind coffee table, bench, or dining room table go visit this place. You won't find anything else like it.

What a hidden gem in Ballard. The owner had an amazing selection of beautiful pieces with countless customization options. He was knowledgeable about the different woods and clearly has a passion for his craft. Each piece is a work of art! Not only did the owner show us many options in the size range we were looking for, he kept our selection stored in his warehouse while we waited for custom legs. Then he delivered and installed legs in our home so we didn’t have to drive and transport the large table. If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind beautiful live-edge or reclaimed wood furniture, sold

They had a couple nice pieces when we went this weekend, but they were more expensive than Restoration Hardware prices and they don't even come with a base (worth an extra $175+). The quality is also questionable as they don't use biscuits, just wood glue. The best price he offered for RAW not planed maple was $900 for two 60"x20" pieces. I found a couple pieces of raw maple with free shipping for a couple hundred dollars cheaper online that we're over a foot longer. City Trees also doesn't own their own woodworking tools, so think about the up charge to compensate for renting.
