I have devoted my entire practice to helping consumers become debt free and have filed thousands of chapter 7 and chapter 13 bankruptcy cases in the US Bankruptcy Courts of Oregon and Washington. I have practiced exclusively in the area of bankruptcy law since 2004 and truly enjoy helping people everyday gain a fresh start.
At Hackett Law Firm, our bankruptcy attorneys always offer a free initial bankruptcy consultation. We will take as much time as we need to go over your debt relief options and if bankruptcy is the best route we can explain how the process works from start to finish. We can also tell you exactly how much the total fees are for a bankruptcy.
Approximately 60% of the cases our firm files are chapter 7 bankruptcy cases. The biggest advantage of chapter 7 bankruptcy is that it is over so quick with a majority of Chapter 7 cases open for only 90 days from filing to discharge. A chapter 7 bankruptcy will eliminate most of the common debts, such as credit card, medical, utilities, collections, and repossession deficiencies.
Chapter 13 bankruptcy is essentially a reorganization bankruptcy. In Chapter 13 a debtor files for protection and proposes a "Plan" that offers their creditors a monthly payment. Chapter 13 allows a debtor to restructure their debt. Although some debt is paid back, it is paid back on the Debtor's terms, not the creditors.
When a person files chapter 7 or chapter 13 bankruptcy they are required to attend one hearing in person. This hearing is generally held 4-6 weeks after the bankruptcy case is filed. Although the hearing is called a "meeting of creditors", it is fairly rare for creditors to appear at these hearings.

In 2019, I was hit hard financially and had no other option but to file for chapter 7 bankruptcy.
