Services
J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. has provided high quality funeral services to the greater Charleston community since its beginning as "Stuhr and Bruning Cabinet Makers and Undertakers" in 1865. In 1894, Henry D. Stuhr and John A. Stuhr, sons of Henry D. Stuhr, took over the operation of the business. The firm became a corporation in 1923 with John A. Stuhr, the remaining son of the founder, serving as President.
The family of funeral professionals at Stuhr encourages your family to incorporate unique customs into the funeral services we help plan and conduct. It has been quite a while since I have been to the Stuhr's in Mt. Pleasant, as the funeral service for my mother, and then my brother and church members have been at their downtown Charleston location on Calhoun Street. This location does not have the old-world charm, but then again it is there for the families of the deceased which had a line of probably 50 people all wanting to pay their respects to the family, as did my wife and I. A well-suited place that also has a church-like chapel for those who want that part of the facility also. When my time comes, whether burial or cremation

I don't often deal with funerals but I was extremely impressed with the quality and efficiency of the way things where handled by this 1st class operation. I have to mention Martha Archibald who went above and beyond to help in the process.
I would highly recommend if you want to make a most difficult decision and time as painless as possible. Everyone and everything was top notch. Thank you all for your help and I was so happy I was able to personally meet you all.

They take advantage of you when you lose loved ones. Charges outrageous fees and rude. Had them pick my mom up from the hospital so we could start the process. Decided to use Charleston Creamation Center (who I would recommend going first) because they were a fraction of the price. Basically tried to hold my mother’s body hostage unless I came up with a astronomical amount of money for services they decided to do without consent. Despicable to say the least

I have been to three funerals this year. Martha at stuhr has been the most caring and helpful person. In a tough year it's nice to have competent people to work with.
