Dr. Martha Klufas, an optometry graduate from the University of California Berkeley, has been a practicing optometrist in the Bay Area for over 12 years. She specializes in contact lenses, dry eyes, and treats glaucoma. Dr. Klufas provides the following exams and products through our conveniently located San Francisco location.
Services
Over her career, Dr. Martha Klufus has developed a keen eye for diagnosing eye problems and fixing them. From an early age, Dr. Klufas helped in her mother's eyeglass store in New Jersey. She tinted eyeglass lenses, as was popular in the 80s, and helped people select frames. Now years later as an optometrist Dr. Klufas has gathered a lifetime of experience to offer you & your eyes.
Comprehensive eye exams to check eye health as well as look for signs of diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and other diseases that can manifest in the eyes as well as eye issues. Educated and scientifically-backed recommendations on the best and newest technology of prescription lenses including photochromic lenses, progressive lenses, and blue-blocking lenses.
Dr. Klufas is an in-network provider for Vision Service Plan (VSP). Her practice also welcomes all other insurance plans and benefits and they will assist in submitting for out of network reimbursements. Vision Plans are not the same as health insurance.
Even though these Vision Plans, like VSP and EyeMed, are often a benefit subcontracted through your health insurance, they are a wellness benefit as opposed to financial security from unexpected expenses arising from medical issues such as eye injuries or diseases.

I always look forward to my annual visit with Dr. Klufas! She is so kind, professional, and down to earth, and my visits are always super efficient. Her staff is also incredible. They are really helpful when choosing a new pair of lenses and always seem like they're having the best time! I highly recommend making your next eye appointment with Dr. Klufas!

Thoughts: I've lived in the Bay Area (Palo Alto & SF) for over 10 years and get a thorough eye exam each year. Of the 4 offices I've tried over the years she has been the best, hands-down. She takes care to really listen and explain things until you understand them and walks each patient through plans to address any eye concerns or issues. Establish care with her and you'll be able to look forward to your annual checkup.
**COVID19 update:** I saw Dr. Klufas yesterday during COVID19 and was impressed with the level of protection and care Dr. Klufas and her staff took to disinfect

Dr. Klufas provides a standard of care that is diminishing and that we have taken advantage of for too long without appreciation and even though we've known each other for nearly 20yrs I have no doubt in my mind that every one of her patients receives the level of care and honesty that I cannot even explain.

A very disappointing experience after her practice (not her individually) came recommended. As a person who has never needed to go to the eye doctor until now, Dr Klufas created a very uncomfortable environment for me. With zero interest in making me feel comfortable, I was most taken aback by how she literally made NO attempt to be helpful. From not telling me anything she was doing (you would think that telling your patient you're about to numb their eyes for the first time would be in the text book...no?) to brushing off all my questions and making me feel like an annoyance for being curious

I just moved to SF from the peninsula a little bit ago and needed a new eye doctor. I chose Site for Sore Eyes in lower pac heights because it was located nearby. My appointment was with Martha and she was awesome! She gave me tips that I should have been given years ago--about how to better clean your contacts, the differences between all the solutions. Not only that, she figured out that my previous eye doctor had over-prescribed my eyes. I now no longer get headaches! My eyes look clearer and feel better. They also have a great selection of glasses at that Site for Sore Eyes.
