Established in 1907 by Edmond Melancon, Sr., the funeral home has been locally owned and managed by a member of the Melancon Family since its inception, serving families in Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin and Acadia Parishes. We are one of the oldest continuing family owned funeral firm in Southwest Louisiana and the first Funeral Home-Cemetery Combination in Lafayette Parish.
During our century of service, four generations of the Melancon family have served the people of Acadiana. Members of our staff are required to attend continuing education seminars each year in order to uphold the highest standards in funeral service that families have come to expect from us.

Services
We understand that making the many decisions which come at a time of loss can be difficult. We offer our support by providing you with two options as you consider making immediate arrangements. Please call us at (337) 896-8596 or (337) 407-1907 to make arrangements in person with a caring professional.
This location, originally built in 1947, was the first building to be built as a funeral home in Southwest Louisiana. Prior to that, all funeral homes were houses that had been remodeled into a funeral home. Over the years the Melancon family has periodically updated this facility to the modern facility you see today.
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of pre-planning has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.
Many who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress. Funeral arrangements are a deeply personal choice.
Most of us are not prepared to plan and carry out a funeral ceremony for someone we love. And so much of the information available on this critically important subject fails to focus on what is most important: having a personalized, meaningful funeral that helps families and friends begin the healing process of mourning after the death of someone we love.

Dealing with the death of my father is one thing that I'll have to ask the universe/God about. However, the fact that my family and I had such a poor experience is what the living should have to answer for. We were told that processes would be taken care of by the funeral home, and not only did that not happened.. but we were not notified to take care of the affairs ourselves. There was no 21 gun salute gathered for my father by this funeral home... we got that set up ourselves. His job title was incorrect on all 30 certified copies of his death certs. No one walked us through all of the details

Funeral for my stepdad was Military funeral. They done an amazing job and are so caring and helpful with everything. I can't express enough thanks to them in such a trying time. They are simply amazing and caring people. And it is so neat and clean and up to date on everything and not once did we feel like we were being rushed.

The funeral directors who worked with us were amazing. Everyone was incredibly professional, empathetic, and sensitive to our needs. We felt supported and cared for from the moment that the process began until long after the service. In a time of sadness and loss, it was wonderful to have such caring individuals making sure that all of the logistics were covered.
