Syrie Funeral Home was founded by Carol Syrie, Sr. Mr. Winnfield, as he was called by the older people, with the support of his wife, Sedonia Gray Syrie. Originally from New Iberia, LA, Carol and Sedonia moved the family to Lafayette, LA in 1952-53 when Carol became Manager of Winnfield Funeral Home of Lafayette.
Carol also became a burial insurance salesman for Winnfield Life Insurance Company. After several years of managing Winnfield Funeral Home, Ben D. Johnson, owner of the funeral home, agreed to sell the Lafayette funeral home to Carol and allowed him to rename the funeral home Syrie Funeral Home. After Carol's retirement, Wesley Syrie, son of Carol and Sedonia, took over management of the funeral home.

Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of pre-planning has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.
Many who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress. Funeral arrangements are a deeply personal choice.

Eight months ago we had to make funeral arrangements for our father. With patience and kindness the staff at Syrie Funeral Home helped us prepare a beautiful service. We were honored to have a warm and caring group of people working beside us at such a difficult time. Thank you so much, we are so grateful . May God continue to bless your hands. Amen 🙏
