One step inside our school will tell you that this is a special place - a place known for its nurturing environment and broad, enriching curriculum. A place where our caring staff strives to foster in students a sense of wonder and curiosity, of joy, empathy, responsibility and service, all while developing an excitement to learn.

Located in the Lake Forest, IL community for over 50 years, The Episcopal Preschool (EPS) has become a leader in local early learning programs. We offer a strong curriculum, and a safe and nurturing environment, as well as a lunch option, morning class times and enrichment programs, such as Spanish language.
Services
In 1964, The Episcopal Preschool was founded as the Episcopal Parish Day School. Begun as a kindergarten program for 5-year-olds, the school's original purpose was to provide a nurturing climate of creativity and learning for young minds. In the late 1970s, the school's enrollment was expanded to 3- and 4-year-olds, and again in 1986 to include 2-year-olds.
The Episcopal Preschool is under the direction of Melanie Upfold. University of Newcastle, Australia. Currently she holds a Level I Illinois Director Credential and an Illinois Professional Educator License in Early Childhood Education (Birth through Grade 3). Melanie has over 10 years of experience in the field of early childhood.
Community outreach and service learning is critical in teaching children an awareness of the world outside themselves and the needs of others. Beginning in The Twos, each class is involved in a variety of projects throughout the year. They learn that working together can change our community for the better.
On any given day, in our preschool classrooms, you will see children engaged in learning and play-listening, creating, imagining, singing, sharing, interacting, and concentrating.

You will see our students learn about themselves and others, learn about feelings and communicating, learn about moving and doing and see them acquire thinking skills, all while building the educational foundation of "how to learn" that will prepare them for the rest of their lives.
Their play is their work. It's how they experiment, problem solve and express their ideas. The Twos Program at The Episcopal Preschool is a great beginning into the educational journey of your child. Our goal is to create a bridge from home and family to a wider world. We believe that "learning through play" develops self-confidence, spontaneity, and a life-long interest in learning.
