Roco Dance
Founded in 1993 by professional dancer Annie Rosenthal Parr, RoCo programs 175 classes weekly for adults and youth. In their two locations within Marin County, RoCo attracts the Bay Areas finest instructors and master teachers. Classes include all levels of Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet, Hip Hop, Breaking, Brazilian, Zumba, Pilates and more. Performances are held 4-6 times annually at Marin Center and RoCo's performance space in Fairfax.
Services
MDRN YGA, founded by Annie Parr and Emily Fromherz Daly is a dynamic mat-less class bridging vinyasa flow yoga, mind-body fitness modalities and floor based modern dance principles. Mary Sherman's trademark Pilates-based sculpt class using free weights, rings, rubber tubing and physio balls. This class observes Peripheral Heart Action Circuitry to burn intramuscular fat while strengthening and defining (more.)
RoCo's Youth Program serves the absolute beginners to the aspiring professional dancer. The curriculum offers a Contemporary, Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Breaking classes from ages 3-18. RoCo's immersive dance environment cultivates authenticity and confidence through creative practice, artistry, physical rigor, exposure and acceptance.
RoCo 2021 Summer Programs: Indoor Camps for dancers of all levels from 5 years old - 12th grade. All summer programs will include special guest faculty and masterclasses in a wide range of genres. This is a playful and creative dance camp where children can improve their Spanish vocabulary. We will have fun through movement, games, painting, drawing, acting, and more.
These workshops are outside of normal class time and usually include 5-8 weekend dates throughout the session. This enables teachers and students to focus on their training during class rather than structuring material for the shows. You must be enrolled in the weekly classes to participate in the workshops.
Our youth dance classes require a seasonal commitment because they are performance oriented classes (see below for performance information). Our program is organized into 3 seasons per year in conjunction with the academic school year. Fall & Spring seasons are approximately 17-19 weeks in length and during the Summer season we offer numerous 1-2 week intensives.

Roco for kids won't refund you your money even after 1 class that my daughter tried and she hated the class. My daughter didn't want to go back but Roco for some reason justified the one class was worth over $300, instead they would credit her account aka 'keep my money'. Oh and on top of it they will only credit classes for her not for me, which makes no sense!
So we try a different class for my daughter and use our 'credit' and my daughter hated that over crowded class as well. We stop going to the class after the first day and no one from Roco ever called to check

Roco is an incredible local resource. I've taken several classes for adults including Cardio Hip Hop and West African dance and the instructors and classes are fantastic. They are high energy, fun classes full of enthusiastic dancers ranging from beginners like me to gorgeous trained dancers.
My son started studying Breakdancing at Roco six years ago, then went on to Boys Modern, Hip Hop, Ballet and Contemporary. He's been part of the school's Modern dance company for five years, has competed and performed with the company many times, and has been teaching Hip Hop to younger kids for the past

Absolutely love the space as well as the instruction at both RoCo Dance locations. Teachers are always prepared with engaging lessons for both adults and kids and the management does a great job of correspondence and making patronage easy!

Really was routing for this dance company but their communication is awful. I sent the manager and dance instructor 3 emails/phone calls discussing my child's dance rehearsal and never received a response. At the end she learned little/nothing. Save your money. It's not worth it.

Our sons have been taking dance at both Roco studios for five years, and I am not exaggerating when I say that Roco has changed their lives. They are very different kids (and performers, it turns out), and yet the warm, dedicated teachers were able to bring out amazing things from each of them. Roco was absolutely life altering for one of our sons, who discovered a real passion for dance and who was able to overcome significant shyness and transform himself into a much more confident, happy, and balanced kid, who was willing to put himself out there and to try new things. And he has never looked

Since my last review five months ago, it appears the Roco Mafioso Monopoly has reconsidered some of its extortionist price gouging. For the second show of the year, prices suddenly went down to $20 a ticket, and the shows were divided by class location, so people with two kids taking classes at Roco no longer had to spend $168 twice a year. $40 twice a year is much more reasonable.

So far so good, but when Godmother Annie introduced the show she addressed the high cost of tickets by stating, among other things, that our dollars go to support the State-owned, union-operated Veteran Memorial

My son has taken classes/camps both in Fairfax and Mill Valley since he was very young. I also have taken many classes in both locations. My son has taken classes from Joe, Jeff, Courtney, Jacqui and Annalise. The teachers at Roco are inspiring, patient, encourage creativity and have found a special place in my child's heart. I love that with loads of homework, stress of school and social pressures that my son comes home happy, relaxed and inspired after he has been at dance. I love that he has a safe, positive wonderful place to go after school with friends that he refers to as his

I write this review with mixed emotions...sad that my daughter has decided to leave Roco after 3 years, but also extremely relieved that she made the right decision. She started at roco as an emerging intermediate dancer and is now comfortably at an advance level. A huge thumbs up to the instructors who are talented, patient, and passionate. For the instructors who worked with my daughter...they deserve 5 stars.

What prompted the decision to leave Roco is the growing frustration over the difficulty to advance by much more at the Fairfax studio. It has become clear that students need to enroll

One of the teachers publicly ridicules students on a regular basis and the management puts up with it despite complaints. Not going back.

Good selection of dance for kids and adults.

One star off for Tika's over-blown ego. Yes, she's passionate about dance and has a lot of respect for its origins and expression but needs to ditch her conceited and disrespectful attitude.

Roco Dance in Fairfax was a big disappointment! My 6 year old son was excited to go to a sample class, well we arrived and they had no dance teacher to teach the class. They said sorry no one is here to teach the class but come back on the first day that the dance class is scheduled and you can use that as your sample class. So my 6 year old arrived at Roco Dance excited to dance. The small lobby was over crowed with parents and kids. we waited patiently in line and when we finally got our turn at the front counter I said my son is here to try the hip hop class we were told that the class

I love this dance studio, both locations. This is the place for dance in Marin with serious, hard working dance teachers who can also have fun. Tika Morgan is an amazing dancer and teacher and brings fire, passion and a lot of experience to her work.

This school is in a great location and the studios are nice enough, BUT my 3-year old was scared of the class and just did not enjoy it. I'm not saying that's the school's fault but they should allow a refund in situations like these (it must happen all the time when you're dealing with 3-year olds?). Not only did they not refund any of the rather exorbitant tuition, but they would not even let me defer the class for a year when my daughter might have enjoyed it more. They were just really unaccommodating and I don't think that's a good way to do business in such

Intensati with Eileen is an incredible work out and it leaves you feeling so inspired! I love the combo of a movement that goes with a positive self affirmation- very creative and uplifting! I am recovering from a rather serious injury and Eileen helped me modify and was nothing short of my cheerleader! Go to this class it makes you strong and gives you so much spiritually and emotionally! I know it sounds kind of awkward and goofy - but once you get going it all really comes together, and who doesn't want and need positive self affirmations- oh and a nice butt to boot!

I started taking Tika's Brazilian and Afro-Brazilian classes when I moved to Marin in 2009, and I've been hooked ever since. She brings such knowledge of the dances--historical, technical, musical--to each class, and she transmits an infectious passion for them. I'm inspired to be able to learn these beautiful dances in the supportive, focused and fun environment that Tika creates.

I used to go to rocs about twice a week for a couple years, and though there are certainly some talented teachers, many are very mediocre. Though it may be the right place for a person who is only interested in dance as something on the side, its not the place for someone who is serious about dance. Unfortunetly, the space at rocs is quite small, and to be frank, dancers are not able to reach their full potential there.

I love the new Fairfax location of Roco!

They've got a variety of dance classes to choose from - morning and evenings - like modern, ballet, hip hop, and zumba/latin. Great workouts, fun dancing!

They also offer youth classes and summer camp.

My favorite classes right now are Joan and Annie's modern classes, and Shana's Yoga Boogie Ballet. All of them work on great technique and core strength, while also just having fun with dancing and basic to challenging choreography.
