For me, dentistry began thanks to my little brother, an epic Nintendo game and a broken tooth. One evening back in 1993, I got so excited during a heated game of "Street Fighter" that I accidentally smacked my 7-year-old brother, Mo, on the back of the head. I offered Mo gifts for years if he would promise to never smile, just so our parents wouldn't discover the tooth.

Dr J will explain if an electric toothbrush is better for your child, he also shows how to brush with an electric toothbrush and how to choose the best electric toothbrush for kids. Around the age of 6 is a pretty common practice, although there are a few factors you should consider before letting your child brush their own teeth.
Pediatric dentist, Dr. J grew up in San Diego and went to Rancho Bernardo High School, where he played soccer for the Broncos. Currently, he is on faculty with the UCLA Department of Pediatric Dentistry and is on staff with San Diego's Rady Children's Hospital. He is also a blogger and a breastfeeding advocate.

As most parents know, finding a good pediatric dentist isn't always the easiest thing to do. Scripps Pediatric is fantastic, and took care of my daughter's tooth extraction and filling with no issues. Their staff is patient, friendly and courteous, and had no issues calling my 11-year old's nerves (the laughing gas probably helped, too)!
I highly recommend this office to any parent out there!

Dr. J was available for any and all questions. He is always present and always engaged with my daughters and myself. He is thorough in his exam and recommendations/feedback. The dental hygienist that helped us today was awesome (sorry forgot her name). The hygienist was very organized, skilled and open to any questions and requests we had. We feel listened to and cared for when we visit Dr. J and his staff.

Dr. K and his friendly staff are an incredible team. Not only has he taken great care of my scared 5 years old son, but also he helped him to overcome with his fear of future dentist appointments. It’s rare to find a dentist that combines such personal touches and care for a patient as a person with outstanding quality of dental care. I highly recommend becoming his patient!

Wow I've never encountered someone so rude at any of my dentists. Someone at the front might have been new, or got off on the wrong side of the bed. I said we were looking for a new dentists as we are new to SD, and without acknowledgement, she started to look for things in the drawers and she kept mumbling to herself. I wasn't sure what she was saying nor doing. So I politely asked if they were accepting new patients. She snapped loudly "Yes, Mom!!!!!" I was

I had brought my niece in for a cleaning and general check-up. And oh, my, gosh! The speed and efficiency of this office was amazing. They had us in and out in under a hour, I was so impressed. Made me wish I was a kid so they could cater to me too - tv screens for when the kids are laying down for cleanings/exams. My daughter does not have a dentist and we have been holding to find one due to the pandemic. Unfortunately my daughter injured her teeth and gums from a scooter accident, and was recommended by a physician that we should contact a dentist the next day. I told myself that I might not be lucky enough to find one for a new patient with an urgent need for dental trauma evaluation.

I am so pleased with our visit! I was hesitant at first because we were coming all the way from Oceanside.
We have had such bad experiences that I didn't have high expectations.
But let me tell you! The office was clean! from the staff in the front to the back are super friendly! And they didn't make me feel like a crappy mom when I left the office.
It's hard being a parent.
You do the best you can to prevent things n sometimes it doesn't play out.
She got her cleaning and Thi was super gentle!
She explained the process to my lil one and elaborated on why it's important

My daughter had her wisdom teeth extracted and Dr. Mac and his nurse were phenomenal. So caring and informative. My daughter was scared in the weeks leading up to the procedure but they put her at ease and answered any questions we had. Caring and knowledgeable! Dr. Mac checked on her that evening to ensure she was recovering well!!

Dr. J is amazing! He is patient, thorough, he listens and he knows just how to handle kids. He is very well educated and trustworthy. His office is very nice, as are the staff who work for him. It was my first time at this office and the experience was by far amazing. Let's start by how they check your insurance before coming in so you don't have to. It was my son's first visit here and Dr. J was very informative! Thank you for making us feel comfortable and safe. We definitely will see you guys in six months! I have had extremely positive experiences with Dr. J and his team. About 6 months ago, my then 21 month old daughter had to have four baby root canals. I met with several dentists before deciding to move forward with Dr. J, and I am so so glad I did. A previous dentist told us their only option was to pull my daughters teeth without anesthesia, which sounded like such a scarring experience... luckily we decided to get another opinion and we found Dr J. He was confident he could salvage parts of the teeth and place four false teeth in her mouth. Throughout the procedure he was informative and straightforward

Our experience has been really positive with Alpine Orthodontics and I recommend them to friends and family in Alpine. For starters they actually care for my child and that is obvious from the receptionist to the doctors. They took the time to know us and our special circumstances and made a plan that worked for us. Secondly, I really appreciated that my family is taken care of by a doctor who has special training on braces and children rather than a dentist who does a little bit of everything. My own experience with braces thought me that braces can straighten teeth but if not done right they

We have been a patient of Dr. J's for 6 years for both of our kids. The environment from xray's (laser gun), crockadile seats and stuffies, iPad overhead entertainment while getting dental cleanings or treatment done, to the toy chest is absolutely FUN and child friendly!
Our kids 8 and 4 look forward to getting their twice s year dental cleanings here. The staff here are all Hands down Sweethearts who we feel enjoy and live the work they do with children. They are all trained so well here. Caring and patient employees who are joyful to be around. It's amazing to see our kids excited

Absolutely amazing experience for my child with a disability that is non-verbal and is reluctant to even walking into a Dr's office. The front office staff were so calming and welcoming. Both Marissa and Dr. J are miracle workers, they provided such a positive experience for my daughter, slowly easing her into the dentist chair, patiently giving her time to feel comfortable, talking to her step by step to let her know what they would do next. It brought tears to my eyes because this was groundbreaking for my daughter, who usually walks right out of the Dr.'s office when she starts to feel uncomfortable

Such bad practice. I called as a new patient for three kids. I specifically asked for them to check my insurance and make sure everything would be covered. I expressed that I needed appointments before school started. They convinced me to make the appointments, and said they would call my insurance and give me a call back if anything wasn't covered.
Instead, they waited and called me the morning of the appointments and said it would be $95 as they were no longer covered by my insurance. Now it's too late for me to schedule anyone before school starts.
