Handmaker has a rich heritage of compassionate care. The generosity of our benefactors has allowed us to grow, expand and enrich the life experiences of everyone entrusted to our care. Handmaker Jewish Services for the Aging is a viable model of excellence in its market, dedicated to serving the Jewish community as well as the broader community.

It is a highly sought after, non-sectarian, premier provider of a stable, secure, continuum of care which includes post-hospital, long term, and dementia skilled nursing care, independent and assisted living, dementia, developmentally disabled, and medically frail adult day care, as well as other services consistent with our mission.
Services
At Handmaker everyone has a choice on the the style of unit the will be living in. We have specialized apartment-style neighborhoods, beautiful living areas and skilled nursing rooms for our residents to select from, each designed to ensure that no matter the level of care needed, we can help find a place to feel healthy, cared for and very comfortable.
Our highly trained chefs use fresh local ingredients, along with the highest quality products imported weekly from around the country to create healthy and delectable kosher meals. From classic comfort food to new twists on old favorites, dining is always the time to gather and enjoy a delicious meal with friends.
Handmaker's specialized "neighborhoods" are designed to help you thrive at the best possible level, with extensive programs and activities designed to keep your body and mind active. From discussion groups and brain-enhancing activities to exercise programs, tai chi and yoga, you'll find healthy, active choices every day.
Handmaker is a Continuum Care Retirement Community (CCRC), based on the innovative concept that allows every resident to get exactly the care they need as their health care needs change. Many times, there are large disparities in the health of couples. One person is relatively healthy and their partner is significantly impaired, physically or cognitively.
We offer three unique assisted lifestyle choices at Handmaker. Maybe you just need a little help with daily tasks or a gentle reminder to take your medication. Handmaker's assisted living options give you the freedom and independence you want, but we're always at your side when you need a helping hand.

My experience with Handmaker was poor and I cannot recommend Handmaker for their rehabilitation nursing services. We encountered a number of people at Handmaker who were working hard and trying to be helpful. I want to acknowledge that. However, the management of the facility was unacceptably poor and resulted in the rapid deterioration of my mother's health.
My mother was at Handmaker for about two weeks after a week hospital stay for a compression fracture in her lower vertebrae. She was at Handmaker to recover and get rehab services so she would move to an assisted living facility for longer

Not impressed. Admin doesn't respond when you have a problem. Tech people still haven't fixed the phone in my wife's room. 1 person on a flor with 15 patience Only thing good is the food. Fix the phones. It hasn't worked for over a week. I wouldn't want anyone I know to be there.

My mother has been at Handmaker for a few years now so I have had numerous opportunities to observe the facility and the staff. I couldn't be happier. Truly caring people ready with genuine smiles and sincere interest in my mother's well-being. We didn't just find a "good place" for her, we found the most WONDERFUL place. She loves it and so do we.

My mother Sophia has been living in the assisted living at Handmaker for over 3 years and could not be happier. Before that she was a member of Handmakers "Adventure Bus" program for non-residents. I have always had positive encounters with all the staff and have no doubts that my mom is being cared for with competence and genuine concern by the staff. The administrative team is always available for answers to questions as well.
The pandemic has caused all of us with family there to become frustrated and I understand (and agree) that to act on the side of of caution is both desirable and required

I am the program coordinator for the excellent, innovative outreach program, Adventure Bus. The program was launched by Handmaker in January 2011 and is still running. Many participants and their caregivers have benefited not only from this program, but also from other Handmaker services: respite care, post-hospital rehab, assisted living, memory care, and also our adult day program, SandRuby Community Programs. Working at Handmaker has allowed me to grow professionally while doing meaningful work and making a difference in the lives of our residents and clients. FIVE STARS for a great non-profit

Handmaker is a beautiful & welcoming place! The staff are warm, friendly, and compassionate. It can be hard to find a good place that cares for its residents and I am thankful that Handmaker & the staff provide a high level of care.

I have worked for Handmaker for more than three years now and couldn't be happier still! Every day I find comfort in knowing our residents and patients are well cared for in a safe and happy environment. There is always something fun and exciting here including performers playing the piano, dance performances, art projects, baking classes, birthday parties, pool with the administrator, and so much more. With my office being on one of our amazing units, I not only get focus on my work, but spend time with our wonderful residents, and see first-hand how well they are taken care of by our amazing

I almost feel that if one is not Jewish, we're treated lesser. Trust me, I've seen this before. And if you look at the reviews, well. . . . Figure it out.
When I filled out paperwork and they asked for my Clergy/Rabbi and said we we had none . . . Boy did that change everything
No staff seem to communicate.
I reported unqualified RN & CNA trying to transfer my mother from wheelchair back to bed WITHOUT a Gait belt, tried to lift from under arms! They had no idea how to position her without dislocating her hips again. I had to step in, put wheelchair back under her and beg

This is one of the worst places I've ever been too, there's ants and A huge mice problem!
I worked here for6 months, I left because there was never enough caregivers, I felt that there was a lot of neglect, I even reported it to Steve the VP of operations, nothing was done.
The food is absolutely horrible, all the residents do is complain. I felt really bad for many ppl that were living there. The mice problem was out of control. Activities lady, is mean, residents
complain all the time of her behavior they still keep her around.
a mess, there's so many more places that offer so much more for

My parents moved to Handmaker Assisted Living over 15 years ago, it became home. My father was cared for in his Alzheimers until he died, my 98 year old mother continues to enjoy the care, activities and friendships she has had over those many years. Staff are caring, competent and compassionate. Management has always treated us with respect and fairness in a timely manner. I could not ask for a more perfect place for my parents to call home in their last years. I am grateful and feel fortunate that we chose Handmaker all those years ago.
