Charming New England inn with a delightful mix of hip plus history. Decor is whimsical and interesting. Front porch rocking chairs overlook lush gardens and snacks and drinks are available all hours in the sitting room.
Dido - room #3 is a beautiful mix of coastal and Asian decor.
The delight of the inn, however, is the extreme hospitality of Michelle and her team. Truly exceptional professionals that make you want to return again and often. I hope to be back soon.

Accommodations are comfortable, clean and cozy. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful, never intrusive. The setting is lovely. A short walk over the Memorial Bridge brings you into downtown Portsmouth NH… lots of charm there.. In the other direction, you are a short stroll from Kittery Maine, a veritable restaurant row, most options being top notch, unpretentious but not unsophisticated.. Shout out to Michelle, Callie, and Tina who helped make our stay fun!

The Water St Inn was even better than the gorgeous pictures displayed on their website. Rustic yet elegant, sophisticated yet whimsical. Our room (4) was comfortable, clean, unique, eclectic, lovely and with the softest towels. We loved our room, the lobby , the porch, the rocking chairs and the beautiful flower gardens. The fantastic location allowed us to enjoy Kittery, and Portsmouth (which we completely fell in love with)! I can’t say enough about this gem of an Inn💙We look forward to returning!! Do not hesitate to visit The Water Street Inn. PS-husband loved the mattress!

The water street inn provided us a beautiful room (room 7) with amazing accommodations. The decor and architecture of the inn is historic mixed certain modern touches. Perfectly reminiscent of coastal New England. Our room had a nice view of the river. Comfy bed. Shared common room with room 8, and we treated ourselves to the free coffee, tea and snacks. I loved that there was a rainbow flag out front— we knew this would be a safe accommodation for us. We are very interested in returning to the inn for a future vacation!

Thoughtful attention to detail, and design are the cornerstones of this inn.
Everything is well prepared and convenient. Even the notices are well written and gracefully provide basic information.
The room was modest sized, with a vaulted ceiling. The bathroom was a triumph, with generous walk-in closet and basic supplies, like shampoo and hair dryer graciously presented.
Even the door locks were convenient and effortless to deal with.
If looking for someplace for a tasteful experience, this inn is a good choice.

We stayed one night in Room One - an adorable, chic room with a king size bed. I took so many photos, it was really wonderful. Whoever did the decorating really deserves kudos. Every little thing added to the vibe of the room. The bed was firm yet comfortable. The linens were lovely. Water pressure in the shower was light but not terrible. I've never stayed at a place that doesn't have a staffed front desk, but you are emailed a code to the front door and your room door to let yourself in. At one point, we needed to know where to park because the little parking lot was full and the

Stayed here 1 night in November. Our room (2) was beautifully decorated, immaculately clean, and very comfortable. We felt very much at home, both in our room and in the public areas. The location is quiet, has water views and is close to lots of cool stuff. We walked to Foreside for breakfast then walked across the bridge to downtown Portsmouth for the day.

We've come every year to this location back when it was the Portsmouth Harbor Inn and spa. When we heard there were new owners we were excited to check out the renovations. The main area is sleek and modern looking, and we were able to stay in the brand new room on the first level. The wallpaper was a beautiful Victorian style print with a tiger and a monkey and a bird in the tree. I've never seen anything like it. The location is so convenient to a great lobster restaurant right next-door and a short walk over the bridge to Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
We will be coming back every year

This was such a spectacular find for a last minute trip to Maine. We were originally looking for a boutique hotel in Portsmouth (NH), but after coming across The Water Street Inn we knew it was where we wanted to stay. The Inn is located right across the bridge from Badgers Island and is a short 10-15 minute walk to downtown Portsmouth. The interior design of the hotel is great combination of classic and modern with a truly unique feel. Our stay was perfect - easy check in / check out (Key Code emailed you ahead of time for entry to room) and the free coffee and snacks in the lounge was a nice
