I am a native of Central New York. I am a 2001 graduate of Onondaga Community College's Dental Hygiene Program with an A.A.S in applied sciences. I have been with Dr. Mahar's practice since October of 2001. When not in the office, my joy is my family. I have a wonderful husband and two small children.
Brushing and flossing are our top recommendations to keep your mouth clean and healthy. One of the dirtiest places in your mouth is in between your teeth, especially the back teeth, which generally gets less attention because they are hard to get to with a toothbrush. Bacteria gather there easily. It is important to floss every day.
The best way to avoid gum disease is with regular brushing and flossing, accompanied by a visit to our office at least once every six months so that we can ensure your continued oral health. We understand that life can be hectic, but urge you to keep your mouth healthy to avoid oral maladies like gum disease.
You need to make sure the first phone call you make is to your dentist. He or she will go through your mouth carefully and look for any outward signs of problems. If there are any, we can refer you to an Oral Surgeon that can let you know what options you have for getting a biopsy taken. From there, you should take the findings back to your dentist and discuss what options there are to protect your health.
Maintain facial shape. When you lose teeth and do not have them replaced, your face can have a sunken appearance. This is one of the major factors in the loss of self-confidence. Prevent remaining teeth from moving out of position. Something that many people do not realize is that teeth are held in place by their neighboring teeth.

Very prompt ~ no long wait past appt. time. Thorough cleaning & friendly staff. We have a new granddaughter & the office staff asked about her at which point I morphed into "one of those grandmothers" & showed pictures. No worries. First time in, went over all concerns of my teeth and my health condition S I had bypass surgery and need to be careful, Dr Mahar listened and reassured me that he was on top of it and just took the worry away. As for the office and his staff, exceptional, everyone was courteous and the place was immaculate.
