Services
Several years ago, we began thinking about what kind of hotel would best fit our beloved Avila Beach. Could we set ourselves apart by constructing a new structure with an early California-Mexico theme? Could we capture the true essence of what lodging near San Luis Obispo should be? Fortunately, our architect discovered a book written in 1928 by two young draftsmen who studied old houses throughout small Mexican towns.
Adults can chose from six stylish and cozy room types when you make Avila La Fonda Hotel your haven away from home. From exquisite bedding to amazing decor, you're sure to find accommodations just perfect for your stay. After you find the perfect room check out or current rates and specials! Please be advised, all receptions and our Hospitality Suite caters to adults only.
Along with superlative lodging and hospitality, Avila La Fonda Hotel offers great deals that are sure to make your stay even more amazing. Add our Mother's Day Package to any reservation in May, and receive an extra $75 of value for only $30! This offer includes a locally-inspired basket loaded with delightful treats, including a bottle of wine and complimentary tasting vouchers for two adults to three nearby wineries.

I've been going to Avila for the past 30 years and never knew this place was here, we could of been more please with the service and the Hotel it's self so many extra things that we were not expecting from the homage pie to the wine bottles in our fridge what a great place. Plus if you like a wine there is a fun place right across the street to wine taste and take a shirt walk to the beach. I would highly recommend for a quite romantic get away if you have the time !!

Wow. Just wow. This place redefined my perspective of customer service. We booked the room on a whim 2 days after we got married.
We booked through their online portal at around 3pm and showed up at 4:30pm to find roses, chocolates, champagne, and wine in the room. The rooms are custom, cute, incredibly functional and absolutely wonderful for couples. Two shower heads with independent control? Jacuzzi? Balconi? Come on now, this place is a GEM! The location is MAGNIFICENT. If you've never been to Avila beach when you get here you feel as though you've unlocked some portal into a land

This was our 4th time staying here. It seems to get worse each time. Always have had problems with a/c. Can never get it cool enough. Sounds like a jet engine 24/7. Also had ants really bad. Had to call and have them spray. The fun of wine and cheese is gone. Used to have more stuff going on in the lobby but the use covid as reason to give out goodies to take to room. But that's probably why there is an ant problem. Not sure we will be back. It was great years ago but not anymore.

Really outstanding place. I would have given five stars if I hadn't had to have the maintenance guy in the room as well as the front desk guy. The fireplace, the dvd player and the jacuzzi all were lacking directions for use or didn't work quite right. Also, every time I got off of the elevator, I saw the giant tear in the middle of the sofa. I would definitely stay again (especially since I now know how to work the gizmos!).

Enjoyed our stay.Staff was attentive and our room upstairs was spacious with a balcony towards the water fountain
.FYI no air conditioning but portable ac units right next to the bed.Ours didn't have a seal outside because the vent was crumbly so it felt like a sauna lol. They did tape it up but didn't work so just left the patio door open.I wouldn't stay here on a hot day based on that.Perhaps the other room's portable air conditioners worked but those things are incredibly noisy so I wouldn't be able to sleep.
We stayed in room 213 and it was awesome sitting on balcony

The hotel doesn't allow children, so I thought it would be perfect for an anniversary getaway with my boyfriend (without our kids). It is now after 9pm and there have been large dogs barking for the past few hours in the room directly below us. The front desk said that they are fully booked with the exception of the owner's suite, which is twice as expensive as the room we booked, so they cannot move us, and offered to refund $50/night on the room charge, which is a drop in the bucket considering the high price I paid to listen to some incredibly noisy dogs bark for hours. I feel like

Dog owners and dog lovers, please avoid this hotel. Our experience was terrifying. This morning (Friday) I left to drive my husband to surf in Prismo Beach (13 min away) at 7:45 in the morning. True, I left my (normally very quiet) dogs in the room. This is supposed to be dog-friendly hotel, and we obviously told the reception when we checked in that we have two dogs ... they were there when we checked in.
When I can back 25 min later my key wasn't working. I was told by the reception that I have 5 MINUTES to pack my bags and leave, because my dogs barked !!! I was treated like a criminal

My husband and I stayed here after two other attempts during the pandemic. We were NOT disappointed. We came here after staying at two other places during our 8 day road trip with our dogs and I must say, this place was 10 times cleaner that the VRBO place in San Diego. But, not only was the place so clean you could eat off the floors, including the lobby, the amenities were out of this world. We booked the room with the large patio to accommodate our dogs and it was wonderful. We sat out there if we weren't on the beach or taking a walk. Our bathroom included a large jacuzzi tub which

The delicious nightly homemade pie options and wonderful croissants at breakfast make this worth the stay - omg! The friendly and accommodating service - especially by Megan and Stephan - off the charts. Spacious rooms, great location, easy parking, the wine/cheese offering, limitless bottled water and nice snack selection. Wonderful 3-night stay in room 202.

Spending three nights here for our anniversary. This is our second time here. As was the first visit this place Rocks. Due to the COVID-19 thing they are doing the food situation, hors d'oeuvres a little different for the time being. They have a breakfast basket you pick up up front. They have small individual Pie at night from 8-9.
Everything is stupendous like always

Once again, not disappointed! Madison was very attentive and catering! Snacks, wine, cheese and more snacks, amazing! Anything we asked, Madison made it happen! Because of Covid.. prepared baskets of Oj, coffee, waters and crossaints for the morning. This hotel in Avila made a much needed date night with the hubby necessary! Thanks again!

This place is AMAZING! I actually took a little solo trip as I needed some time out of my house. I was nervous traveling during Covid, but could not have been more please with my decision.
First, The rooms are clean, warm and very welcoming and the bed was so comfortable. It was my own little day spa oasis and the mini fridge had some personal wine. The daily snack pack was also just such a lovely addition. It is really all the little touches that made this such a perfect place to stay for a little R&R time.
The staff is friendly and they were diligent with requiring masks while in common

My husband and I stay here at least once or twice a year for a local getaway. The last time we were there was pre-Covid so we weren't sure what to expect. La Fonda use to have these daily socials a few times a day with wine...pie...croissants. They were fabulous and really added to the experience when staying at La Fonda. When we got there the smell of freshly baking pies was evident. The sweet gal who checked us in as personable and let us know how things had changed with COVID. La Fonda did not disappoint at all! Everything was pretty much the same...except it was packaged so you could take

No joke one of the BEST hotels ever stayed at.
Pros:
Charm. Such a unique hotel. They hook you up with perks. Breakfast croissants, afternoon nachos, Happy hour drinks and snacks, and nighttime pie and ice cream. Oh and you get snacks and a bottle of wine. AND we got wine tasting tickets to 3 wineries for 2 people. I'm a happy camper :)
The vibe of the hotel is like a hacienda and felt authentic. The rooms are large with a fun hot tub. BUT the best part was being able to bring my 90lbs dog. They even gave him treats so I know he'd rate this place 5 paws as well.

We were looking for a place to stay near the coast in San Luis Obispo County and decided to stay here in Avila Beach. I'm so happy that we chose this hotel because it was absolutely amazing!
When we arrived we parked in the free designated parking lot below the hotel and took the elevator up to the lobby to check-in. We had great service at the front desk and were told that they have four happy hours a day and have a huge complimentary snack gift basket in the room. Super impressive! The only feedback I would give would be to give 100% plant based options for their plant based guests.
