Founded in 2000 by Artistic Director Elba Hevia y Vaca, Pasin y Arte Flamenco Company (PyA) has achieved a reputation for creating groundbreaking contemporary feminist flamenco that is also deeply steeped in the centuries old traditions of the southern Spanish masters. Their critically acclaimed works are noted for their innovative choreography and technical precision.

Ms. Hevia y Vaca's commitment to expand the boundaries of the form is evidenced in the seven original, full-length, flamenco-based dance pieces she has created for the company. Drawing upon a mastery of flamenco integrated with other dance forms, mixed media and experimentation in narrative and symbolic storytelling, PyA embraces the tensions between modern and traditional approaches.

Sevillana Get Togethers 2020, which made its premiere as part of the 2020 Fringe Festival, combined virtual learning, digital content, and a final live virtual gathering. During a time when it has become easy to feel isolated and disconnected from others, Sevillana Get Togethers 2020 aimed to keep people connected while also honoring the personal self and celebrating humanity.
In 2012, PyA launched the first Philadelphia Flamenco Festival and again in 2014 thanks for generous grants from the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage.

The Festival broadened PyA's impact through partnership with a wide range of Philadelphia organizations, as well as 20 artists and 4 scholars from the U.S. and abroad, including masters from Spain of different genders who are also exploring feminist and other innovative approaches to flamenco, such as Rosario Toledo and Israel and Pastora Galvn.
In her new solo performance La Bolivianita, PyA founder and Artistic Director Elba Hevia y Vaca explores her lifelong artistic journey with Flamenco. First introduced to Flamenco through her family's pride in their Spanish heritage, La Bolivianita delves into the artist's emotional and changing relationship with her beloved art form.
In 2008, Hevia y Vaca also launched the PyA Conservatory to provide a disciplined environment for preserving and teaching the formal structures of flamenco in an emotionally supportive environment. Hevia y Vaca is senior adjunct at Franklin & Marshall and at Temple University. She continuously teaches courses at local schools, colleges and universities and is often students' first encounter with this dance form.
Since 2008, PyA has been committed to bringing the highest level of Flamenco artists from all over the world to Philadelphia to host workshops. These unique workshops provide Flamenco students with the opportunity to learn from some of the most renowned Flamenco artists and teachers working today.
