Dr. Gordon McCurry, P.G., has more than 30 years experience as an environmental consultant in hydrology relating to water resources evaluations and groundwater contamination. His experience includes the investigation, characterization and modeling of watersheds and aquifer systems for projects nationwide, from site- to basin-scale.
Water is an essential part of our daily lives yet few appreciate the effort required to manage this resource in a way that balances human and environmental needs. As demands for water continue to grow so too does the need for proper planning. McCurry Hydrology has considerable experience in many aspects of water resources planning, as described below.
McCurry Hydrology has been involved in modeling aquifer systems, including connected stream-aquifer systems, for more than 30 years. Dr. McCurry has taught graduate-level courses on groundwater modeling and developed a package for the widely used USGS model MODFLOW. Starting with a site conceptual model of flow, we then routinely apply analytical or numerical models to evaluate questions of both water flow and solute transport.
Flooding is one of the most unpredictable aspects of hydrology and can cause the greatest impacts. Proper planning can minimize impacts but often results in mitigation measures that are costly and thus not popular. Federal and State flood regulations have helped reduce impacts from many flood events through detailed floodplain mapping, requirements for building construction, and flood insurance.
