Since 1985, we've been growing and producing California's finest wines in our corner of Napa Valley. Here at Altamura, we practice an exacting, no-compromise policy in the vineyard. Appearing regularly in trade magazines such as "Wine Spectator", "Wine Enthusiast", "Wine & Spirits" and "Connoisseurs Guide", the winery has also been featured in lifestyle articles in the "Los Angeles Times" and "Private Clubs".
Our wines garner consistently high critical ratings with an average "Wine Spectator" score of over 91 points for the last 10 vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon. We are proud to feature Altamura Wines and Altamura Gardens produce at our restaurant, Ciccio Napa Valley, located in Yountville, California. Here you will be able to try some Altamura wines that are otherwise exclusive to the Altamura Visitor Center.

Altamura Vineyards and Winery, established in 1985 by Frank and Karen Altamura, is the only winery in Wooden Valley located within the Napa Valley appellation. Napa natives Frank and Karen have a decidedly hands-on approach to every step of the growing and winemaking process. Thus, a natural production limit is established at the Altamura Ranch and the wines reflect the Altamura's deep commitment to reflecting the terroir of Wooden Valley.
In our little corner of Napa Valley, we've been quietly growing and producing some of California's finest wines since 1985. We practice an exacting, no compromise policy in the vineyard where, we believe, 90% of the wine is made. All of our wines are 100% varietal and 100% estate grown in Wooden Valley.

Altamura, I loved everything about it, not because I am a wine expert or have some trained palette. It's because I love how it tastes, it's fresh, fruity, and just overall yum.
The experience here was everything I wanted, we arrived, a dog ran up to me, I played with the dog for about 5 minutes before entering their tasting room. Everything was great, we chatted about Napa, the wine, all the normal stuff. But more interestingly they cared about who we were, we got to know each other, they recommended some restaurants, and we had such a blast talking about everything but the wine.

I was getting ready to order some more of their wine and couldn't believe it wasn't all 5 star reviews, so I felt obligated to defend them. Have no idea what experience could have caused the 1 stars. We LOVE this winery and all the people there - in addition to fantastic wine. We ate at their restaurant and tasted the wine there first a couple of years ago, then made an effort to search them out on our next visit and have been back twice. We drink a LOT of there wines. The quality, service, and people have always been fantastic. They stand behind their products. The winery is fun to drive to as

Idk why some idiot rated this place 1 star but this place is a serious find. Reservations are very difficult, they only do 2 a day and I believe only on weekends. That being said, their wine is phenomenal. Unlike most of Napa, which is very commercial now, this place is laid back. Also, my tasting was with the owners son who was very informative and real. Doesn’t talk like a trained monkey but as someone who actually knows the daily activities of the winery. Gave great insight into what actually goes into making the wine. Finally, they don’t offer bs 1oz pours but actually give you glasses

They don't stand behind their wine. I bought a bottle of wine from them, stored it properly and allowed it to age into a proper drinking window. Upon opening the wine was horribly corked. I nicely requested a replacement bottle and was told "we will not be able to replace this wine. Since it was purchased so long ago, we cannot ensure that the wine was properly stored or that some other external factor was the cause. In addition, we have not had any other issues with the 2006 Cabernet."

By far the friendliest and most understated winery ice visited... Oh, and the wine is fantastic. The wine isn't cheap, but compare it to some other big Napa Valley wineries (eg. Clos du Val where we went immediately after) and it's fantastic value for money.
The location is also stunning - away from the hustle and crowds of the main Valley, and a lovely drive. The winery itself is on a large ranch, of which only a fraction is actually used for wine.

Don't Read this review. No kidding, I write this with mixed feelings because I think this wine is one of the most closely guarded secrets in Napa. They were completely under the radar until their 2007 Cab was Wine Spectator's #5 wine of the year, now everybody knows about them and soon it will be difficult to get their liquid heaven! Their Cabs and Sauvignon Blancs are our favorites, not to mention the Sangiovese which rivals any Brunello from Italy. The only thing better than sipping their wine at the winery is dining at their restaurant, Ciccio, in Yountville and sipping their wine

Highly recommended. A great boutique winery and one of the friendliest staff of one (Monica) you could ask for. Frank is a master grape magician and every one of his wines can be consumed now or as I do cellar to enjoy over the next 10+ years. It's tucked into the mountain so be sure and get directions when you make your reservation.

We are not into "whites", but I will say this is definetely THE BEST white wine I have ever had!!! OK...the reds are the best, too! I cannot say enough good about Altamura! Unbelievable! And Monica??? What a doll! Loved her and Dot the winery cat! Gorgeous drive up to Wooden Valley but it's really not that far from Napa...10 minutes? Soooo worth it! Thank you so much, Monica and thank you Frank for making such incredible wines!

Man, what a find!
Monica took us through the flight of whites and reds and with each taste, I rediscovered new flavors on traditional Napa favorites and learned about a new one or two. The Sangiovese is the one that caught my attention. Even the Blanc which I usually do not care much for, expanded my appreciation for the brand.
Turns out this out of the way Napa winery just happens to be Robert Redford's choice to supply his Sundance Resort in Utah. What can I say other than the guy has great taste.
Altamura is a bit east of the city of Napa but will be a fun mountain drive to get there

... and she jumps onto the bandwagon. A relative unknown gets 97 points and a Top 5 spot in Wine Spectator? You couldn't have dared me to stay away.
Everything about my visit to the Altamura Estate and Winery lived up to expectations. It was a bit difficult to get there (tip: use the directions they provide when you set up your appointment. Your GPS might find this location to be a challenge and you'll have no cell service once you get close), but it's just incredible to feel the excitement and energy there. Wine: 3 Stars
Service: 5 Stars
Ambience & scenery: 4 Stars
Visited just after the WS 2010 Best list came out -- a bit underwhelmed by the 2007 Cab, the 06 was better (in my palate) -- and I'm not sure that aging will improve it. Not a wide selection of wines to taste.
Well run family owned winery, lovely grounds and a great drive out to the winery, but kind of creepy barrel room (with faux concrete finishing).
Great tasting experience -- just wish we liked the wines better.

If you're ever in the area do yourself a favor and make your way over to Wooden Valley and experience a tasting that is going away like the dinosaur. As tastings get less and less intimate, cost more and more, and are for the most part over crowded, it's refreshing to be able to go somewhere and have a personal experience.
Your best bet is to get a tour from Frank Altamura himself. A self made vintner, he didn't go to school for enology, he does it

We ordered wine from this winery. It was far more than the price winesearcher indicated it would be. We returned it. Frank Altamura charged us shipping BOTH ways when it was his error that the price was misquoted. I would suggest you do no business with this winery.....or bother to visit. Life is too short to deal with unethical arrogant wineowners.
