Excellent service and food. Wonderful coffee. Recommend the veggie omelet. We'll be back. Much better than years ago.

Wow! We found this from a TV spot highlighting the food, which is good; however, if James is working the bar, you're in for a treat. Over two nights, we tried many of the drinks on their cocktail menu and ALL we're solid.

Wonderful service and large room with beautiful views of the hill country. The restaurant has amazing food. We came down to see family and the staff here treated as like family. Thank you for making our stay perfect!

I was excited to try this place by some of the reviews , but sadly we were disappointed.
I’ll start with the pros, ITS A REALLY CUTE hotel / restaurant combo, Tastefully redone. The food was good. The pork belly app was really yummy, taco flight was really good, but would be better if they removed the chicken portion and whatever the rice was. I was disappointed that they have prepackaged rolls ! A little tacky in my opinion.

The atmosphere was crisp and quiet. We were in no hurry but the service, although friendly, tends to be a little on the slow side. Discussing the food, you can expect different flavor experiences. For those 21+, their drink menu always has updates for the season.

The food was great and very satisfying & as for our server Becca she went beyond expectations. We will definitely be back here again.

Everything about this place was just awesome. The drinks, nachos, tri-tip, and pie! The only thing was the pork chop seemed a little dry. But the spaetzle was fabulous.

We went here for a wedding and the atmosphere was so lovely. And then we grabbed lunch and it was incredible. I wasn't too terribly hungry but I ate all of it. I would love to come back and just eat here. (We also had breakfast here and it was amazing). Overall if you're in this area STOP AND EAT here. There isn't a thing on the menu that would disappoint you.

We ordered the ribeye and salmon. Salmon was gross.. not fresh. Do not recommend the ribeye either. Ordered medium rare and it came out well done.
The one thing this place has going for it is the views.

Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Tips:
- Come during daylight. The viewscape is a MUST.
- If weather permits, sit outside for complete joy.
- Enjoy an appetizer, salad, entree AND dessert.
- Plan a staycation soon at the boutique hotel that houses the restaurant.

The charm of this quaint place is 5-stars. Who knew you could get this type of panorama just minutes outside San Antonio? I guess many folks did. :-) Seriously, though, this place has great charm, service and views. You're going to want to plan a staycation here.

The calamari was great! It tasted fresh and was nicely fried. Served

Decent hotel restaurant in Castroville. Nice to sit outside on the deck overlooking Medina County. Brisket stew had a good smokey flavor but the vegetables were a little undercooked. Chicken cilantro pasta was also good but slightly bland. Charcuterie board was excellent with a spicy pickled watermelon rind as a surprise favorite. The small serving was enough for 4 people as an appetizer. Friendly waitress and staff. Customer service could use improved communication but nothing major. We enjoyed our overall experience that we would definitely return.

Never a disappointment food is amazing staff is so welcoming can be pricey wish they had more of happy hour appetizers .... I really wasn't impressed with the deviled eggs honestly needed some seasoning for my taste .... Highly recommend the Pot brisket Roast dish on a cold day

Pleasantly surprised with this little gem. Clean room, friendly front desk, refreshing pool. Restaurant was very good. Service was a little slow but food was tasty and served hot. We ate lunch and dinner there. Our servers were McKenzie and Abby and they were top notch. We will be back !

Our Server Becca was great! The food was on POINT! The Mimosas Flight is very refreshing. I was surprised they weren't crazy busy. 30 minute wait to be seated was tye only thing that wasn't perfect - but it wasn't a bad time either.

So excited to discover this gem! Amazing food, great service, clean, and great indoor or outdoor seating options. The cocktail I tried was on point, the kids meals were impressive- tasty with a huge fresh fruit cup, and both the flat bread and brisket grilled cheese we tried were really good. The staff was kind, attentive, and accommodating. Will definitely be back next time we're in town!

My husband and I made dinner reservation at the hillside Texas bistro restaurant for my birthday specially asked to sit outside and were told that's not a problem. We come in for our dinner reservation and were told that no outside sittings are available because of their wine tasting event. Very poor organization and communication process. They could have told us this over the phone or called us to let us know that outside sitting is not an option since they knew that's what we specifically requested and coming in that day for that. Very disappointed with the overall experience!

Delicious! The pork belly appetizer is a must. The BBQ sauce is really something. The basil and mozz flatbread was amazing as was the brisket grilled cheese. James, bartender, was our server and he is awesome. Perfect dirty martini! Definitely coming back to try all the food.

Food was great but I was surprised to learn that tea refills are not complimentary, having been charge for 3 glasses of tea once I received my bill.

I have been here multiple times for breakfast and though it's a small menu I have not been disappointed with the service or the food. I wish they had more options however they can customize my order which I like. Because this place is located in castroville (a small town) it's never been packed from what I've seen during the times I've come here. I recommend sitting out on the patio weather permitting. A delicious mimosa and some breakfast will give you a good start to your day! One thing I have yet to do is try their lunch and dinner menus. I'll be back soon!

Had breakfast, dinner and a poolside lunch. Service was spot on - friendly and attentive. Sausage gravy was a bit bland but the biscuits were outstanding. Flat steak was well cooked, though salty, as was the broccoli. Drinks were well made and burger was very good, but the fries, too, were over salted. The wrap around porch is comfortable and the dining room is attractive. Great views.

Shrimp & Grits
I'm been around the world tasting food. What I find is hard for restaurants to make is Shrimp and grits? I tried three different restaurants that specialize in shrimp and grits. But the chef here at Hillside Texas Bistro Mr. Marcus Martinez is one great cook!
The grits was not runny or hard and lumpy Neither. Normally they do not serve this dish until dinner time, but the server name Ariel was so kind & nice and offer to ask the chef would he be willing to prepare it for me. Then to find out, when I ordered my chocolate cake he made that also.

Even giving this restaurant 1 star is a stretch. My husband made 6:30 Sunday reservations for our anniversary. When we arrived there was no line and the place was maybe 1/3 full. We were seated right away, so I guess the 1 star goes for the lack of waiting to be seated.

We waited 20 minutes outside as multiple servers helped neighboring tables and weren't even given water. It wasn't until we stood up to leave that someone came over. Too little, too late. Our anniversary was such a disappointment. We had high hopes based on the view, decor, and menu but obviously, we will not be returning

They aren't kidding when they say hillside! This place has an incredible view! Because of work, I stayed at the hotel and spa and was pleasantly surprised with this restaurant.

Southern style is the approach they are effectively going for with this place. Very elegant and and with the view as their main source of lighting.
