The proud owner of Durham's finest Montessori school, Indigo Montessori, has opened Sleeping Grass to fill the need for flexible, drop in childcare. Through the years many Indigo parents have asked for a childcare option during school vacation or simply for a few hours. With our drop-in center we provide a fun and safe place for parents when regular schools are closed for vacation, summer or when you just need a spur of the moment sitter.
At Sleeping Grass Studio, we offer an arts based drop in care. Our uniquely designed rooms are based upon various art modalities including visual arts, music, movement, storytelling, drama, cooking, and beyond. Here at Sleeping Grass, we have created a safe and original environment that encourages children to be expressive and creative.

Mastaneh Christofferson is the creative owner and director behind Durham's own Indigo Montessori School, located in the heart of downtown. Her love for combining education and art in the classroom has driven her to create more opportunities for growth to children in Durham. She and her team put their minds together to open up Sleeping Grass Studio, a colorful environment that offers a creative outlet for children.
Child care is defined by law in G.S. 110-86 (2) as a program or arrangement where three or more children less than 13 years old, receive care away from their home on a regular basis (at least one time per week) for more than four hours but less than 24 hours per day from people other than their parents or legal custodians.
Hours at Sleeping Grass are more set up like a retail environment than an office environment. We are open late on Friday and Saturday, we close at 7pm during the week, and as a drop in center, we need flexible schedules that can meet the childcare demands as needed. Sleeping Grass team members need to be willing to work on Saturdays and Friday evenings.

Our two daughters beg us to go to Sleeping Grass all the time and they get so excited when I tell them I am taking them there. We've been using the center for over three years. Our girls adore the staff and the different things to do, and we love having the convenience of a drop off center. We never feel bad leaving them at Sleeping Grass because they love it so much!! We've had nothing but positive experiences.

Sleeping Grass is a lifesaver for me! With an irregular schedule and toddler, I know I can always count on Sleeping Grass. The owner, Mastaneh, has always been warm and welcoming to both my son and I. But the true superheros are all of the caregivers there! Yana in particular is amazing! My son loves her and she is so warm to him, it is a huge relief to know that he is in good hands when I can't be with him. An added bonus is that I know the kids aren't planted in front of a TV all day and actually playing. Highly recommend!

My husband and I have been taking our 3 year old daughter there for two years to supplement our half day preschool and we love it. We both feel like we are dropping her off with friends and that she is being cared for in the best way. On top of that she loves it! They have a great indoor play area, a playground and a front porch area which in lined with turf! They are invaluable to us...super flexible for anyone with an informal schedule...honestly don't know what we would do without them.

I went into Sleeping Grass to pick up my child and this is what I walked into...the door was unlocked so I was able to walk right in....after walking right in I didn't see an employee but I heard them some where in the back, I went down the hall where all the children were playing....unsupervised !! On the other side of the hall there was a baby crying in a car seat facing the door still no one showed !! I stood in the hall for 4 1/2 min watching the kids play until anyone saw me.....the employee was surprised to see me standing there....the baby is still crying .....I gather her things ,try to

I called this place said my name and asked for information about their daycare. I was rudely told by a female that it wasnt a daycare and it was a drop in center. I then said ok can you give me more information about this place she rudely proceeds with well what what do want to know with a rude demeanor. Please someone who cant be professional on a phonecall and speak to an adult they way she did does not need to deal with children.

First impressions are so very important. I went to get information about this center one morning and was met rudely by both the caregiver and owner. The caregiver met me at the door with an abrupt "what?" The owner herself came out and didn't greet me, didn't introduce herself, or attempt to make me feel welcome. The kids were very close to the door. I am sure my own child would not be treated well by the two rude women and left.

As a (very) small business owner, non-profit worker and mother of 4 and 7 year old sons, Sleeping Grass is so appreciated. Wouldn't be able to make night time meetings and gigs without them. Great staff, minimal screen time, little back yard play area, different rooms full of things for kids to touch and do.

This child care company was the first for our 10 month old baby. We've interacted with both a staff member and the owner. Both were very capable, pleasant, knowledgeable, and gave us a sense of security. We were apprehensive about leaving our daughter at an unlicensed facility, but considering this is an off-shoot of the Indigo Montessori school and is owned by the same individual, we decided the risk was minimal. The regular staff that works here are also teachers at the Indigo Montessori school, so they are trained professionals.
