Services
Victory Village Day Care Center is a leader in the child care profession, designing innovative and flexible opportunities that achieve superior outcomes for children and families. We are cost effective in delivering a continuum of care that meets the dynamic needs of Hospital employees, University employees and students, and their children.
Victory Village Day Care Center has been providing high quality child care to parents in the University of North Carolina community for over 50 years. The Center was begun in 1953 as a parent cooperative. For 45 years, Victory Village was located off of Manning Drive in Chapel Hill, very near the neighborhood of the same name that housed married students after World War II.
The Victory Village Board of Directors is made up of University appointees, Hospital appointees, and parent representatives. The Board sets policy for the center and provides general oversight of and advice on operations. The center's director reports to the Board. Board members are also available to parents and teachers who have questions or concerns they wish to share.
She has a long history in the childcare field, owning and operating another quality program in Chapel Hill for almost twenty years before coming to our program. She has a B.S. in Business Administration, Management & Organizational Development and a Master's Degree in Education (Birth - Kindergarten).
We believe that each child is an individual who deserves to be respected and appreciated for his or her own unique character. We believe that young children learn best by interacting actively with their environment. Cognitive, intellectual, and creative: basic concepts and problem-solving skills that will lay the foundation for future learning.

Unfortunately I must update my post (Dec 2021) to reflect the fact that this wonderful daycare Center remains Victory Village in name only: it has just been handed over to the for-profit Bright Horizons. It is sad and inexplicable that UNC has allowed this to happen.
This daycare has been a magical place for my children over the past decade: a true community that now feels like a part of our family. The Director Jeanne Wakefield (who has just retired, in August 2021) led the Center from strength to strength with her superb leadership skills, her playground and other initiatives, and how she fostered

Look no further. Well, you might have to because everyone wants their kids here so there's a waitlist.
This place is amazing. We are so lucky to have our son here. He's been here since he was 5 months old. The people here are outstanding and the care, unsurpassed. I wish I could take this place with me when I have to move cities for my next job!

We have been so happy with Victory Village since our two year old twins started there in September 2016. The school feels like a true community and the boys have grown by layouts and bounds. All of the teachers are qualified, loving and seem to truly enjoy what they do! Most importantly, the boys are always happy when we pick them up and come home having learned something new every day.
