Services
I am convinced that chronic stress, pain, fatigue and early aging do not have to be our constant companions. Today it seems harder than ever for our natural processes of healing to get their job done. Daily stresses challenge our body's basic functions. Because there is no mind body split, treatments for the body necessarily include our human consciousness-a sense that we matter, that we are connected to each other and our world.
My practice accepts insurance for acupuncture patients. In order to best serve you I can verify your insurance benefits before you arrive. Please contact me directly and I will contact you as soon as the benefits are established. Your initial appointment can take about 75 minutes. Subsequent appointments usually take about an hour.
Licensed acupuncturists in the state of California have extensive training in both Chinese and Western Medicine. The minimum board requirements are completion of a four-year master's degree program including 3000 hours of classroom instruction and 1800 hours of clinical residency. The number of treatments required depends on the nature of your complaint.
Fine gauge needling and precise point location describe Japanese acupuncture. Because our bodies are made up of dynamic physiological systems, acupuncture points move and change size from day to day. Emily takes care to identify where stress and tension are hiding in your body each time you come in.
Cupping is a form of manual therapy where glass cups are placed on a specific area of the body to help relieve tension and increase circulation. Suction can be created using a pump. Very often cupping is done on the back to relieve upper back, shoulder and neck tension. Many people become "addicted" to cupping, meaning they find its therapeutic benefits to be outstanding and sometimes even prefer it to deep tissue massage.

I've had an excellent experience with Emily's acupuncture treatment. Her manner is gentle yet confident and this allowed me to feel at ease and relax. After the treatment my body felt nourished in some strange but wonderful way. I highly recommend her service.

Emily Smith is the best of the best! I have had many acupuncturists in New York City and the Bay Area and there is no comparison! Her skill, intuition and talent is heads and tails above the others! I feel tremendous relief after her treatments and she has great recommendations for reducing stress, remedies for inflammation, reducing sugar cravings, etc. Plus, she's lovely and her offices are beautiful. She can do any treatments and often combines cupping, acupuncture, mild stem pads, etc. I feel so lucky that she has any available appointments and wish that everyone suffering had access to her

I have had two excellent experiences now with Emily. She has brought me a lot of relief from two chronic symptoms. I'm amazed at my progress so far. Thank you Emily, I'm a convert, I've never had Japanese acupuncture before and wasn't sure what to expect.Do not fear the needles, Emily is so gentle that you are hardly aware of what is going on. Floating is the best way to describe my feelings after a treatment.
