I was born and raised in China and I am fluent in Mandarin. I moved to the U.S. in 2001 to seek better opportunity for education. I attended UC Berkeley for undergraduate studies. Since there is no optometrist in China, I didn't know anything about optometry and the importance of primary eye care until my first eye exam in college.

Dr. Xiao is excellent and I had a great experience with her. I like her vibe as she is sincere, transparent and reassuring. I usually don't like one of the procedures where they test the pressure in your eye but she made me feel comfortable and the procedure was quick and painless. It requires skill to make a patient feel comfortable and safe.
She also upgraded my contacts and corrected my prescription from the last office I went to. I highly recommend Dr. XIAO and Uber Eyes. Her staff are friendly and patient as well.

I received my glasses yesterday and they are very nice and very good quality. In order to apologize for the long delay on my glasses order, the Owner and the lab offered me a pair of lenses for any prescription with any lens feature of my choice. I appreciate the gesture and have revised my review.
I am quite sure that Lenscrafter would not have done the lens offer.

Dr. Xiao assumed my need and gave me glasses without asking my preferance. Things were done based on assumptions rather than individual needs. She assumed my insurance coverage the same as most and asked me to pay a whole lot more than than necessary. She didn't take time to check my coverage.
I needed computer glasses, she assumed a reading distance and gave me the prescription based on her assumption. She never asked me how far my computer screen was from my face. I never had computer glasses and didn't know the glasses can be fit based on distance.

I've been a client of Uber Eyes for years and recently had need for an updated eye exam to get new computer-use specific glasses as my last computer glasses rx was several years old. The team at Uber Eyes has put in place a very confidence inspiring and comforting approach to eye exams, and eyeglass "try-ons" in the midst of the Covid pandemic. From scheduled times with no other patients present, to complete UV treatment on the spot for all demo frames to insure the sterilization of anything I would wish to try on, to strategically employed copper sheeting, again for health and sterilization benefits

I saw Dr. Xiao just over two years ago and got new glasses, which were working just great until I clumsily rolled on top them and snapped the arm off. Whoops! I was worried that having a two year old prescription would be a deal breaker in ordering a replacement, but the woman on the phone assured me that given the COVID-19 pandemic, she wouldn't require me to come in for a new appointment, and she placed the order immediately. I had been to other optometry clinics in the past. What stood out immediately was the thorough examination and explanatory nature of Dr. Xiao's approach. I was immediately put at ease with her pleasant bed side manners! I was equally impressed with the inventory of all the high quality designer frames that you can't find at other clinics. I feel a little more special knowing that I'm wearing higher quality designer frames that are a little more custom.This is definitely my new go to place!

First a disclaimer: 1) this review is about a visit in August 2017. 2) I went to Uber Eyes in part because Dr. Xiao is a friend of a friend's.
Regardless, since I'm not close to her, I was quite delighted by my scheduling with her staff with a short notice. She was knowledgeable and thorough with my eye exam, and I had good and upgraded prescription after that. The staff was also super friendly, and patient in helping me find frames that I wanted -- I got 2 or 3 pairs if I remember right (at least a second one for reading / computer work).
If I must criticize, the only slight drawback

I have to use a scleral lens for one of my eyes because I have keratoconus. It basically means I use a hard contact lens and not a soft one. Dr. Xiao was great in helping me fit my eye for one, even when I had to update my contact from a different provider. She also walked me through how to fit it, cleaning, and insertion techniques.
I totally recommend her especially if you're unsure of what's going on with your eyes!

I can concur with one of the other reviewer's (Heather) comments. My wife and I walked in today looking to see what frames they had in stock and possibly set up exams for both of us. The problem is neither sales associate so much as acknowledged our presence upon walking in; no acknowledgment ("Hi...hello...what can I help you with?); I don't even believe they picked up their heads from the laptops they were looking at behind the counter top. Keep in mind we were the only customers in the building. Finally, after 5-6 minutes of walking around someone finally came out from behind

Dr. Xiao and her staff are very helpful. The glasses they offer can be on the expensive side, but they also offer less expensive ones. Most fit within my insurance coverage. They also make great suggestions on finding comfortable fitting glasses; she and her staff helped me find glasses that fit more comfortably for lower bridged noses.

Dr. Xiao is so rude and unprofessional. I was treated very poorly when my eyeglasses did not work out for me. Dr. Xiao was pressuring me to keep eyeglasses that I was not happy with and she was very upset when I told her I was not going to settle with the eyeglasses. Luckily Dr. Lee helped me correct the problem, Dr. Lee was very kind and sweet. It's a shame Dr. Xiao was so rude and angry towards me for no reason, she made me pay extra, out of my own pocket, to correct the problem. I will never return here because of Dr. Xiao and I don't recommend this place to anyone.

I didn't come here for an eye exam, but rather brought a copy of my prescription just to buy frames. Overall, they do fantastic work here. The selection of frames is very high quality, and to a degree, the price is going to reflect that (definitely won't be finding Costco prices here!). The staff were helpful without being nosy or overbearing, the interior looked very nice and modern, and the turnaround to receive my glasses was not bad at all. One thing I did notice was that they are *really* sure to notify you when your glasses are ready. They called me once in the morning, which I answered and

This is my 2nd time there; Worst ever, Dr. Xiao doesn't know what she is doing.
I got in, trying to get contact lens exam.
She gave me something (defined contact lens) which burns my eyes, no idea why; and then clear one works well.
I decided not get the lens there, since my eyes feel burning; she became very upset.
Anyways, she was not professional, bad experience there; won't go back again.

I had to go to Costco times, with 3 different prescriptions. I was mortified the second time, much less the third time.
The more I think about it the more it bothers me. The woman that examined my eyes can't be a doctor, she checked my eyes twice and miss diagnosed me. And also checked the prescription on my old glasses. She ended up using my old prescription on record.
I don't recommend this place. The worst experience ever!

This is optometrist office in the narrowest definition - they only know how to test vision and prescribe glasses and contact lenses, but can't address even a minor problem (e.g. a contact lens piece stuck in your eye). They will tell you to go to a medical ophthalmologist.
The office is staffed with technicians (so called opticians) who are not permitted to diagnose or treat eye diseases. Their optometrist works only 2-3 days a week.
You wouldn't know that until you have a problem.
