Little Leaf is a unique nature preschool for children ages 2 - 5. Our educators are passionate early childhood experts who place play, social-emotional learning and the natural world at the heart of the children's days. The curriculum is emergent and play-based, inspired by the Reggio Emilia and Waldorf pedagogies.
The global Nature Pre-school Movement and the Coyote Mentoring approach enliven our daily work. We have beautiful indoor classrooms as well as acres of the natural world to explore at all of our sites. Little Leaf is comprised of three locations; the Andrus-on-Hudson campus in Hastings-on-Hudson, the Lenoir Nature Preserve in Yonkers, and Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining.

Services
Little Leaf is committed to educational equity and recognizes the importance of economic diversity in our community. For this purpose, Little Leaf has partnered with Little Seeds of Peace. Little Seeds of Peace is an independent non-profit comprised of parents and teachers from the Little Leaf community who are interested in both early childhood peace studies and providing high-quality nature preschool regardless of income level.
While we are outside a great amount of time, we do have indoor classrooms and may spend up to 1/3 of the day indoors. There are days however that are 100% outdoors. Yes, but sometimes we must adjust our outdoor time. We do play outside in the rain and the snow. If there is a thunderstorm however, we stay inside.
Little Leaf brings its values of love, joy and community to Teatown with one mixed-age class of 3-5 year olds. The class is rooted in Coyote Mentoring practices and the nature-immersion education model, inspired by all that Teatown offers. As with all of our classes, the Owl class has elements of the Reggio Emilia and Waldorf approaches.
The children in our Lenoir Nature Preserve class have 40 beautiful acres to explore! Each day, they visit their favorite places like the Woodland Trail, the old Mansion, the Butterfly Garden, and the meadow. There is a lovely indoor classroom in the nature center with open-ended toys and lots of possibilities for creative expression (not to mention a cool selection of Taxidermy!)
The Acorn Class at the Andrus-on-Hudson campus is for 2-3 year olds and runs Monday - Friday. The AM class is from 9:15-12:00 and the PM class is from 1:00-3:45. We have two, three and five day programs for this class. We have two classes for children ages 3-5 at the Andrus on Hudson campus: The Sugar Maple Class and The Sassafras Class.
