Moraine Woods Consulting
Moraine Woods Consulting is a full time home inspection company which operates under State of Illinois license #451.0000165. The Company is also a member of the American Society of Home Inspectors. This means that we have met the highest standards in our industry and since 1993 we have provided professional service to several thousand clients.

We understand the many systems and components of a home, their proper installation and maintenance. Our emphasis is not necessarily based upon "code compliance", which in actuality sets minimum standards, but rather is concerned with whether a system or component is installed or performing according to published industry and/or manufacturer's specifications.
Services
I hope that it will answer some of your questions and perhaps raise your awareness of home inspections. I started Moraine Woods in 2001 as an effort to provide a more personalized service to my clients. Performing home inspections has been a fulltime job for me since 1993 - this is all I do and to date I have conducted over 6,000 evaluations.
Electrical: Interior wiring of panels, system grounding, outlets, switches, fixtures, wiring methods. Plumbing: Water and waste lines, fixtures, water heater and venting, waste water ejector pumps, gas lines, whirlpool tubs, water flow and drainage. Basements: Foundations, framing, signs of & crawls moisture concerns, ground water sump pumps.
Homeowners who have owned their homes for several years can even benefit from a home inspector's knowledge of maintenance and repairs, and experience to avert potential problems. Many independent and nonprofit organizations exist to promote ethical practice and professional standards throughout the home inspection industry.
To find out if mold is a problem in your home you should contact a qualified indoor environmentalist to evaluate conditions in the home and how it is used. Even if conditions are presently dry there can be indicators of past dampness issues which could be causing current air quality issues. Such evaluations are generally outside the scope of most home inspections.
With few exceptions, the first question they ask is what does the inspection cost. No matter what a buyer spends on the home it's a large amount to them. When hiring an inspector this is the one time where skimping on cost makes little economic sense. People are paid based upon knowledge and experience and inspectors are no different.

We had Eric Barker inspect our property and we have to say he was very disrespectful towards us and our property. He walked in his dirty shoes over our nursery white carpet and bedrooms leaving prints even though booties were provided. Also he went over his scheduled appointment without consideration for other people time.

We've lived in our home a year and a half. Since then we've had to replace both furnaces because the gas company condemned them, we've spent well over $15,000 on septic and drainage repairs involving our sump pump and a slew of other repairs costing an absorbent amount of money. Money I would of preferred to spend on fresh paint and new floors. Our real estate agent recommended this company. None of these major issues were detailed in our report. I've thought about this company many times and have been frustrated that our home inspection report failed to call out any of
