I have over 20 years of experience helping individuals and couples face life's challenges in a supportive, safe, and compassionate environment. Sometimes we get stuck, "overthink, " persistently get down on ourselves, can't break the pattern of tension in our relationship, or just need someone to talk through a problem with.

Many of us have been carrying a sense that "life should be easier" since childhood. My job is to help you let go of that burden so you can experience the daily richness of life with more ease and contentment. For couples, my goal is to help increase your sense of closeness and connection, while providing tools for healthier communication.
Services
The desire to learn how to communicate better, so both partners can express their feelings and needs, and both partners feel understood by the other. One or both partners have experienced trauma in their lives, and it is affecting the relationship. You are considering ending the relationship, but before you make that decision, you want to make sure you've done everything possible to make it work.
The fee is $220 for individuals and $250 for couples. Clients typically pay by Zelle (bank-to-bank transfer, found on your bank app): or by check each session. I do take credit cards. I am not a member of an insurance company. I am an out-of-network provider. I give my clients a superbill, typically once a month, which they submit to their insurance company.
In order to ensure your confidentiality, email correspondence should be limited to scheduling appointments. If you are contacting me for the first time, please call and leave on my voice mail several good times when you can be reached and your preferred telephone number. My office is on the northwest corner of the intersection of Wellesley and Wilshire, two blocks west of Bundy.
Therapy begins with your making sure you feel comfortable with me. Then, I will give you all the time you need to tell me your story - why you think you need therapy or anything else you want me to know. Together, we will discuss goals for therapy, so you feel assured we are on the same page about what you want to get out of the experience.
In couples counseling and marriage counseling I strive to help strengthen the connection and bond between two people so that the relationship becomes a safe place where people can share their most vulnerable feelings and know their partner will come to their support. Relationships work when love is secure, when love is expressed, when the connection between two people feels strong, feels right, and brings them joy.

Dr. Shepard specializes in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). EFT has been demonstrated in numerous studies to be effective in helping couples strengthen their relationship. This was exactly the type of couples therapy that I knew my husband and I needed 3 1/2 months ago. We had hit a dark period in our relationship and I knew we needed help. Dr. Shepard made us feel comfortable throughout our journey through couples counseling together. Dr. Shepard offers a safe place where both of us really felt heard. He truly has helped our marriage of 2 years become stronger than it ever has been
