Services
Hidden high in the Santa Cruz Mountains lies a unique winery and vineyard operated by founder/winemaker Jerold O'Brien. Established in 1979, Silver Mountain Vineyards is located at an elevation of 2,100 feet and enjoys a spectacular view of the Monterey Bay and surrounding redwood forest. Warm summer days and cool nights balance to produce a longer hang-time for our fruit, maximizing their flavor.
The land that is now Silver Mountain Vineyards, was in fact a vineyard from the late 1870's until approximately 1920. Here, as with most of the thousands of acres of grapes in the Santa Cruz Mountains, the vines were torn out and replanted with fruit trees. In 1972 Jerold O'Brien found this bare, abandoned, eighteen acre orchard sitting atop a 2,100 foot ridge overlooking Monterey Bay.
GOVERNMENT WARNING: The Santa Cruz County Planning Department requires that we publish the following item, however Silver Mountain Vineyards does NOT believe this to be true: "The only access to Silver Mountain Vineyards is via rural, narrow, winding mountain roads which have blind corners and limited turnouts; therefore, the use of limousines, vans, RV's, buses or other similarly sized vehicles is strongly discouraged."
The Surf City Vintners collective of boutique wineries, numbering a dozen, has made Santa Cruz a vibrant mecca for wine tasting. An urban renewal project has turned former warehouse space into a hip, trendy destination. Start at Silver Mountain, then enjoy an afternoon wine tasting at several other boutique wineries within walking distance.
Experience a relaxed family feeling in a beautiful setting, and be part of one of the oldest and most established wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Members of our Top Flight, Flying Aces and Custom Wine Clubs receive our award-winning wines direct from the winery at special discounts and enjoy other benefits, too.

We spent mother's day at Silver Mountain Winery and we're completely spoiled. Wine tasting and a lovely charcuterie basket made for a perfect mountain picnic.

A lovely place! Situated on top of a mountain, the views are absolutely gorgeous. Highly recommend the Rose of Pinot Noir and their Oscar Cabernet Sauvignon. Staff was incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. I also LOVE their sustainability approach to wine making.

They offer a great great wine, at affordable prices, drinkable now, and with great views.
Their Pinots and Bordeaux blends are in par with anything good outthere. You can get 6-8yrs old vintages, so readily aged for drinking now. At least half price vs NapaSonoma, where they sell a 3 yr old Cab.
Or you can sample their Chardonnays, of you care for white juice.
Views from the top of Santa Cruz mountains go all the way to the ocean.
Not to mention Gerold, the proprietor and soul of this place - a truly unique person.
We are a member; the only winery we are still members of.

Went here with my family which included two young children. We did not have a reservation and were concerned about having kids. They were very accommodating and provided a tasting for my wife and me. They had plenty of open space and were covid safe. Be forewarned, the road is very narrow and mountainous. We purchased 2 bottles of wine and will definitely return.

I really enjoy this winery and think it's a great place to take friends to show off the wines that the Santa Cruz mountains have to offer. The wines at Silver Mountain have a complexity and depth that many craft wineries struggle to achieve. Their tasting also offers a library of wines that is much more extensive than what you'd usually find at a boutique vineyard so they will likely have something that you'll enjoy. The tasting room off of Summit Rd. is quaint and relaxed, with a nice balcony offering decent views. Tables are available if you want to bring a picnic.

The man pouring wine was extremely rude and did not pour the full amount of tastings offered (even though it was already paid for) because he refused for it to be tasted more quickly when we were on a timeframe for a tour. It would have been helpful if he would have disclosed his preference beforehand, accepted payment after the fact, and articulated his expectations in a more respectful fashion. Completely inappropriate and poor customer service. Will not go back.

Beautiful setting with amazing views in all directions. Has a small tasting room (for bad weather) and a pleasant outdoor seating area, sometimes with gentle music, in a grassy amphitheater. The wines are all excellent, some from grapes grown here, some from central coast. Very knowledgeable winemaker and staff. Also boasts ecological approach. "My favorite local winery."
