It's the oldest continuously owned and operated family vineyard in the Valley. No other winery in the Valley holds an earlier date. He planted five acres of Mission grapes the spring of that year. The cuttings came from his previous 1858 vineyard at his Main Street Saddlery. Today, there's 20 acres of impressive old vine, head-trained Petite Sirah stretching south to Adams Street and just four blocks from his old Saddle Shop.

We cannot say for certain when David Fulton sold his first commercial wine. The permit allowed Fulton to make and sell brandy. He paid the sum of $5.83 in excise tax for the permit. Given the low consecutive number of the document, this may be considered one of earliest such licenses issued to a Napa Valley vintner.
David Fulton died in the fall of 1871, two weeks prior to the grape harvest. The operation was now left in the hands of David's wife, Mary Albino (Lyon) Fulton. A gutsy woman in her own right, she traveled alone from Pennsylvania, crossing the Panama by foot and arriving in Napa in 1860. Here she met and married David in 1863.

Thanks to Richard, our Napa experience was absolutely amazing. The patio overlooking the vineyard was peaceful and beautiful. We could not have asked for a more perfect evening. Richard was very knowledgeable and actually spent time answering all of our questions. For a young couple, we often get ignored, but he was a great host. THANKS RICHARD! We will be back

This winery just can't stop amazing me. First it was a great Petite Syrah, now it's an amazing semillon and... A properly made rose! (Hint: not a mix of white and red) And of course the port AKA sweet petite that is one of the most beautifully balanced fortified wines far beyond this valley. Photos are from march and September
