It is with heavy hearts we share the news of Big Tree Inn closing for the foreseeable future. This pandemic has created a difficult time for the country, world, and especially our Geneseo community. What was first a "temporary" pause from our normal operations has unfortunately been extended indefinitely due to the pandemic's ongoing impacts.
The current and ever-evolving restrictions placed on travel and dining, along with the necessity to keep each other safe, have created extensive strains in the hospitality industry. Welcome to the Historic Big Tree Inn, come and experience our hospitality. Join us for a delicious meal by our talented chef, a stay in one of our luxurious suites, or a celebration in our event center.

Shame on you Big Tree Inn. My daughter was planning a wedding for Sept 2022 and when things changed in May 2021 they wouldn't give this child back her $500 deposit! That's 17 MONTHS before her event. I have been involved in event contracts before and typically cancelation can be 6 months prior with full refund. They took advantage of a young person and during Covid. They must truly be awful people!

I don't think we had the best stay the staff at the Big Tree could have provided for us. We first stayed in the Mark Twain suite. The jacuzzi was the best part of the room and the hot water was nearly instant. The room wasn't very clean. They do not have electronic locks on any of their rooms. When we were leaving to visit Letchworth Park, the door handle to our room broke, trapping me inside our room and my husband outside of it. When a staff member was finally able to remove the door handle, we switched rooms. The bed in our second room, the Bethia suite, was creaky and I felt every time my husband

My husband and I just got married this past weekend at Big Tree Inn and it was perfect! Erin, the Catering Manager, was so helpful! The staff was incredible, the food was amazing, the building was GORGEOUS and clean, and during covid they kept everything socially distant and safe! We really couldn't have asked for a better wedding and can't wait to enjoy our anniversary there again! Thank you Big Tree Inn!

This place had nice rooms but bad everything else. My wife and I stayed 3 nights. First night was ok, room was nice but not as clean as it should have been. Second night was fine. During the third day my wife got locked inside her room. The maintenance person arrived to open the door and found it would be more complicated than just using a key. They asked me if I was "in a hurry" to get in. I explain, once again, that my wife is in the room and we were trying to leave. After about a half hour or so they were able to get in but the door is broken. They transfer us to another room and we leave for

We made a reservation 4 days in advance for dinner on Saturday night. I left my name and phone number with the reservation. When we arrived on Saturday night after an hour and 15 minute drive, the restaurant was closed. They had no record of our reservation. We had to find somewhere else to eat. We are extremely disappointed with the hospitality and customer service. The woman at the front desk said the manager would call me about the mishap. I have yet to receive a phone call. All in all, completely disappointing.

We were here for acceptance weekend at SUNY Geneseo. After the meetings and tours decided to stop here for apps before heading to Rochester. We were seated in the bar area. Really cute bar area/seating. The bartender was so attentive and knew her beers and the menu!! We ordered, the Crunchy Thai Shrimp, The Pearl Wings and The West Texas BBQ Beef tips, unfortunately they were out of the tips, which was a little disappointing, so we order the Bavarian Pretzels, which was recommended by the bartender. Everything was really good. My favorites were the shrimp and the wings, I love the sauces that

The only thing good about this place are the fries and the decor, I like the atmosphere otherwise HORRIBLE. Awful service the food is below mediocre, so bland. The only thing worst than the food is the service. As a college student I went to big tree all the time being that it's the only restraunt I could use my meal plan on. Each time I went to Big Tree it was such a struggle even to get a check. You'd wait for what feels like forever for your food and afterwards you'd wait ever longer for the check. So bizarre. My friends and I wouldn't even be asked how the food was let alone

This is a really nice place to come and stay. It's much better than going to a local hotel. The rooms are clean and cozy. The staff is kind and friendly. The restaurant serves good food and it's reasonably priced. It's kind of a cross between a bed and breakfast and a hotel. It's located right on Main Street.

My team and I stopped at the Big Tree Inn for happy hour following our day long office retreat. We were the only ones at the bar and it took some time before someone on staff realized that we wanted to order a round of drinks. It's a very nice bar and the beer selection is decent, along with the service- it's just the lack of attention that they might actually have folks from the college that would want to stop in for happy hour after work. I guess the lack of happy hour specials was telling? Regardless, we'll likely be back for dinner or maybe try happy hour again!

On Monday, August 26, my husband and I reserved a table for dinner because we liked the menu posted on their website . After being seated we noticed the menu was completely different except for a few items. I was very disappointed but the husband wanted to stay . The ambiance is old world but the old rugs and some of the decor need refurbishing .
Some anecdotes about the food: the crab appetizer was excellent after they warmed it up for me but it cries out for crackers to go with it; the onion soup was devoid of onions and had little flavor, and the Caesar salad had little garlic. We asked for

Lovely venue. It's my mom's favorite so we're threw a party there for her 80th birthday. Friendly catering staff but they took a while to get back to me initially. I've heard the food here is great but our selections were pretty dry. The cheese board appetizer was great and our server Kelvin was awesome.

Did not stay at this venue. Was a guest at a wedding this past weekend. Poor service. Had to ask for dip for the vegetables a couple of times The cheese platter - couldn't tell what kind of cheese each one was. You should display a card telling what kind of cheese it was. The buffet was disappointing. Lots of vegetables and one small piece of chicken for my meat (which was good. Only positive thing on the buffet menu). The rolls were burned. No water on the tables until it was time to eat dinner. Your event planner should be more attentive to a wedding party. I will not recommend this establishment

All I have to say is. Chicken pot pie. It's hands down the best one I've ever had. The hotel is outstanding and charming. Has the old world feeling. No swipe key for rooms. They are regular keys. Darla, she was fantastic and showed me to my room. She's a classy lady. But overall a great charming place, and I'd definitely recommend to all.

This was the worst food I've ever eaten. The French onion soup tasted like dish water and took one bite and couldn't eat it. The Cesar salad had the worst dressing ever and the croutons were stale I ordered the salmon and it was burnt and risotto tasted bad and had a weird crust that you couldn't break through. The creme brulee tasted like it was caramelized then put in the freezer because the top was soft. The waitress was rude and kept checking her watch for text message while we were talking to her, then told me I don't know what creme brulee tastes like when I told her it

This was our first Thanksgiving in the area. We brought our family to this restaurant in hopes of a delicious holiday meal. Instead, everything was barely room temperature....EVERYTHING. The food was mediocre at best. From the cold soup, awful carrot salad, to the boring dessert. At $25 per person, The Big Tree Inn charged an additional $3 for each cup of tea (a tea bag and hot water.)
My whole family left completely dissatisfied and disappointed. This was a TERRIBLE Thanksgiving dinner experience.

Excellent suggestion made by a local when asked for a place to get hot savory foods. The chicken club did not disappoint, and the salad accompanying it was perfect. I tried both the thyme mayonnaise, and the garlic aioli which normally comes on the club. If you like thyme, you'll love the thyme mayonnaise...amazing!
My daughter said her burger was the best she's ever had. (The beef is local!) The fries were cooked and seasoned to a perfection.
The service was both professional and warm, which doesn't always go hand in hand. Our server's name was Rachel. The front porch dining

Went to the tavern for a drink. The atmosphere was extremely pleasant. The bartender was quite helpful with suggestions and they had a variety of specialty drinks. The specialty drinks were fairly priced.
I ordered the Dark and Stormy made with Meyers Rum and ginger beer. It was delicious. My friend had an espresso martini and she said it had a great coffee flavor without being sickening sweet.
Saw people ordering sandwiches and burgers at the bar. Will have to come back for lunch.

I have enjoyed the amenities of the Big Tree in a variety of capacities: I've stayed overnight in the Village View suite, eaten the food at their restaurant, and attended a catered dinner in their event space. All of their services are top-notch and I think they're an under-appreciated gem of the local area.
My stay in their Village View suite was excellent. For a reasonably affordable rate, I got to stay in a large room with beautiful furnishings, a fireplace, bottled water, a massive bed, a private bathroom... and of course, a Jacuzzi right there in the room. That pretty much says

I grew up in the area and recently returned. The restaurant was always a hit-or-miss depending on how the school was running it at the time. About ten years ago, I had an excellent experience at The Big Tree. They had an experienced restaurateur running things and the menu, food quality, and service had vastly improved. Now, after three recent visits I can attest that while the menu is still enticing, the food is not quite as good as it once was and the service is consistently slow. Not just a little slow, but snail like. Also, they've gotten rid of my primary reason to visit The Big Tree

As some people on here allude to, this place has so much potential. Given how much you're spending on a meal, relative to where you are (Podunk Nowhereville), you'd likely expect a pretty phenomenal meal. You'd be wrong. The new chef showed some promise by rejuvenating the menu creatively, but even that spark is pretty dim, now. The dinner fare should shine. Instead, its tabled without much flavor. The only thing "special" about the specials is how especially mediocre they typically are. Service is also pretty hit or miss. I've had a few 2+ hour dinners here on relatively

I really wanted to like this place. I really did. I went back and forth in my head about whether to even write this review, because I take no joy in it. There were some good things, but mostly bad. I can't honestly recommend it. This place has SO much potential.
Let's start with the hostess. We called ahead to make a reservation, and it was incredibly difficult to hear her. She spoke at a volume so low, only ants would be able to hear it.
We get to the restaurant, and it's beautiful. Love the architecture, and even the old world, charming design inside. The inside seemed a little
