Babcock Winery
Babcock Winery & Vineyards was established in 1978 when my mom & dad, Mona & Walter, purchased a 110 acre property with lima beans & fallow land in the countryside in the western end of the Santa Ynez Valley. At the time, they were in the restaurant business, the proprietors of the legendary Walt's Wharf in Seal Beach.

Over the years, my dad practiced a number of crafts, making him a full-fledged Renaissance guy. At the time of establishing the vineyard, he was also a dentist & a commercial fisherman. Shortly after the purchase of the property, they planted a modest 20 acres to Gewurtraminer, Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay.
Services
I'm Bryan's wife Lisa, among many other things. I'm the quirky mind behind the labels, the furnishings, & tchotchke laden landscape of Babcock Winery. If you like it, great! Please keep coming for more, as it is constantly evolving. My father flew commercial planes as a flight engineer for many years.
Join us for award winning wine in a soulful atmosphere. We offer tastings, wine by the glass or bottle, and a superb selection of snacks, as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Hippest tasting room ever? Babcock's hangar-sized "retro-rock-and-roll" venue in Lompoc is chockablock with vintage photos, antler chandeliers, mid-century furnishings, board games and a party atmosphere.
Your winery was an amazing place to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday. The private setting, long tables and friendly hospitable staff made for such a great experience. Our host, was extremely knowledgeable and helped elevate our experience. The private area was tucked back with a beautiful view of the valley and vineyard.

There is a place under an ancient Oak tree on the Peake Ranch, where if you look toward the west you see one of the most beautiful little hillsides in the Sta. Rita Hills. For me, part of its beauty is the daily breeze that all of a sudden cools down a couple degrees once it hits the shade of that massive tree.

Literally some of the WORST wine that Lompoc and the Santa Rita Hills have to offer. It must be the winemakers not the grapes.

I came up without a reservation on a Saturday of ALL days. And not o my did I get to witness a PROPOSAL go down but the staff is AMMMMMMMAZINGGG. First off Chris took care of me! I had the most INCREDIBLE experience. I only got into wines recently and I'm still trying to figure out my taste and what I like and do t like and the types of tones and texture in a wine. I am more of a white wine person myself and son the sweeter side BUT I actually bought 3 red wines because they were so damn good. I'm learning about my taste and the different types of grapes and how they're blended

Funky and oh so casual. Who knew a place could exist like this where they leave the stuffiness at the door. Try to do a tasting with Tom. He’s fantastic

Talk about an experience. We were immersed in a bit of history and great vibes
Everyone working there was so helpful!
Dakota was so nice and if you get chance to meet her and have her help you, you won't be disappointed.
The owner Bryan was so kind and shared some awesome stories of how the winery came to be.
Wine is delicious!

We have been wine club members of Babcock for 8 years and it never disappoints. Brian Babcock makes amazing Pinot Noir and the winery is warm and inviting. Definitely worth a trip when you are near Buelton. Plus the tasting room is one of the most unigue
around.

This place is lively , fun , relaxed and super chill unlike the neighboring winery ! I am so glad we stopped here after experiencing the snobby atmosphere next door. The staff here is so chill , friendly & will make you feel welcome 🤗 you can spread out and find privacy very easily and the prices of the wines are very reasonable. I highly recommend this winery to everyone! This place deserves a solid 5 stars !!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a unique winery with beautiful, expansive views to boot. Seating seems to be outside mostly and is spread out across the grounds. Quirky seating arrangements which all seem to have been repurposed from something.

Pinor Noir is their jam here and theirs are excellent. Tasting flights are definitely more on the expensive side, but they are completely worth it. The server who helped us was knowledgeable and succinct. Her descriptions focused on the regions where the grapes were grown and collected and also under what type of conditions they were grown in. Very different perspective for this

One of the most memorable wineries we visited on our anniversary. This winery has beautiful views and amazing wine. We did two tastings and every single wine we had was perfect. When you walk in their tasting room their is so much to see and buy. We got our kids some jewelry and Vinyls. I can't remember the ladies name but she was the manager and she was extremely attentive and even let me taste the Rosé they have which taste so good it's perfect for a summer day. This winery is a must when in town.

Service was terrible, bad vibe from staff.
We enjoyed the location, and items they have for sale.
Wine was good, but could not get the bad vibe that greeted us out of us so we left.

I wish I could Take everyone I know from 1975 to this winery. So cool and great glass of wine. The Louvre was nice but this rock 'n' roll museum is the bomb. A hidden treasure in this rural town !.

Great wines, BAD experience! Stopped at Babcock to enjoy a sandwich and a bottle of their 'Old Vines Sauvignon Blanc'. The wine is amazing (as are all their wines). The problem was three mothers with 3-4 kids (ages 6-9) that did nothing but run around the picnic area screaming and hollering. When we 'hushed' the kids near us one mother commented, "oh it's outdoors, it shouldn't be a problem". Had to advise her that it is an adult setting (A WINERY!) and that these kids were obnoxious and intrusive. We suggested they be taken to a public park/playground. We

What an amazing winery and they still thrive even with the massive loss of their vines. The service we received with our hostess Bree (hope I spelled that correct) was amazing! We would go back just to visit with her! But the wines were absolutely amazing!!! We really enjoyed the Radical Pinot Noir and the Dream Field Chardonnay all suggested by our hostess. The views are breathtaking and the wine shop is trip back in history to the simplest of times. Cannot say enough good thing about this winery! Did I mention Bree?!!!!! A must stop if in Solvang!

While the local area is known for their Pinot noir (and believe me there is alot of good Pinot here at Babcock) the best Cabernet sav I have ever had locally is here at Babcock ! The 2017 block fifteen! A truly deep and complicated cab that will only get better with time.

Babcock also boosts a beautiful estate with plenty of room to socially distance, along with the quirky barn to find all kinds of cool Knick-knacks like old vinyl you can buy.

Also if you are a fan of dessert wine the 2018 "once in a lifetime" viognier is a must try standout!

Best vineyard and wine tasting in Santa Barbara County! If you like Pinot, try Ocean's Ghost. For Chardonnay, Top Cream and the Limit are our favorites. And the Block 15 Cabinet and Upper Crust Sarah are top notch. And for rose fans, try Love's Garden.

It had been 20 or 25 years since I visited Babcock Winery. I have loved and enjoyed their wines at many events and local restaurants.

Last week I came back. Being Covid conscientious we were escorted to a table by our wonderful server Briana. I don't believe that they are doing tastings at the moment but they were running a special on the most delicious bottle of Chardonnay, it was Top Cream, about 40% new French Oak and the grapes are sourced from Donnachadh vineyards. It is a nice homage to the more buttery Chards of the 80's without being unpleasant to the current generation

We love Babcock winery! It's our go to winery when we're visiting the central coast. Their wines are delicious and I love the vibe of the place. There is an awesome shop full of fun things to buy - jewelry, gifts, snacks, collectibles. Their staff always provides the best customer service too, especially Chris! Highly recommend spending an afternoon at Babcock.

Babcock Winery was the last stop we'd planned on a day that had a few too many tastings planned, and when we walked in the door we were more than a little burned out, and a bit blase about what was in store. Fortunately, this tasting room is very eclectic and fun - it snapped us right out of our wine funk :-)

Tip: The first thing we noticed after our arrival was the ambiance. There's a lovely outdoor tasting area with some nice shaded spots to sit and sip. There's also seating indoors if that's your preference.

All the wines they poured the day we visited were very good

I can't say enough great things about this place. The views are wonderful, the wines delicious and balanced, and the inside is welcoming and fun. We were in Santa Barbara the day before, and when doing tastings in the city, we asked various employees and locals what their number one winery to visit would be, and Babcock was number one for them all. We couldn't agree more. Thanks for a wonderful visit and for making such amazing wines!

Favorite winery of the weekend. We popped in here after hitting a few others and we just really enjoyed everything about this place.

We had a 2 for 1 tasting coupon which made our visit even better! Not only is this a great tasting room, but it also has lots of other cute merchandise to check out. My mom isn't into wine so she enjoyed checking out the loot while we sipped away.

We started with: 2018 SPARKLING CLAIRETTE MÉTHODE ANSCESTRALE, "PÉT-NAT", LOVE GARDEN

Definitely the best gift shop of all the area's wineries! Lots of fun merchandise in a warren of funky little spaces. Plus a great collection of artifacts such as old typewriters ! Serviceable wines, although you'll find infinitely better product right next for at Melville Vineyards. A fascinating example of the difference in winemaking techniques.

I cannot begin to do justice to Babcock. With a review that is.

We had two very different types of friends tell us this was one of their favorite wineries, anywhere.

Finally went. 11 am on a Thursday.

Is this a museum or hippy experience or great winery or all or just a fun experience?

Our winetender was a DJ rocker. Nice guy.

Make him shake the rose to shake it into a pink cloud. Crazy.

Tastings were all fabulous. My friend renewed her membership so we got a couple extra tastes. Yeah!

Go browse the albums and too cool cards and signs for sale. Go into the "luxury" port o potties
