Sutro Wine
Alice Warnecke Sutro is an artist, winemaker and grapegrower. She founded the wine label SUTRO in 2012 and manages all aspects of the business. She is also proud to work in agriculture for her family business: Warnecke Ranch & Vineyard, the inspiration for her wine label and where she sources premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.

When she wears that hat (and boots) she is assisting her aunt, Margo Warnecke Merck, to manage the family's 80-acre vineyard growing premium grapes for winery clients. She is deeply interested in the long-term potential of her local agricultural community and in 2019 joined the Alexander Valley Grapegrowers Association Board and heads their Marketing Committee and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.

22 portraits of Locals doing hotel-y things now grace the glass hallways of Harmon Guest House, an art-infused contemporary hotel right off the plaza, in downtown Healdsburg. Created with tempera paint on glass, this temporary installation is a result of the joint envisioning of hotel owner Circe Sher and local artist Alice Warnecke Sutro.
Online exhibit of artwork relating to grape growing and winemaking, or the Sonoma County agricultural lifestyle, curated by Alice Warnecke Sutro with artist interviews. My favorite photographer is Henri Cartier-Bresson. He captured humanity with candid street shots from the 1930s to the end of the last century.
I wouldn't be here without the women who are trail blazers before me in the wine industry. Witnessing woman-founded or woman-run wineries, woman winemakers, female oenologists and viticulturalists motivates me to continue to reach for my wine dreams. I am not a trail blazer nor am I by any means well-known, but I am an artist.
Volcanic Terroir is as exciting and enigmatic as it sounds. It makes wine that is strong and charismatic. Terroir itself is a complex notion best described as the confluence of environmental factors that make the growing conditions at one site undeniably unique. The distinguishing feature of Volcanic Terroir is volcanos.
Sutro Wine Co. was created to pay respect to a heritage of land stewardship, entrepreneurship, female leadership and creativity; and to display a craft that was honed to do justice to the Warnecke Ranch & Vineyard Volcanic Terroir. Warnecke Ranch & Vineyard is managed by my aunt Margo Warnecke Merck, a compassionate and dedicated land steward.

We enjoyed our visit to Sutro! We signed up for the hike experience and we got to see the soils and vines up close. Kaitlin Childers gave the tour, and we learned a great deal about the ins and outs from growing the grapes through the harvest. We then had a tasting of a variety of their wines. This visit was special and personal. Loved it!

We had the most wonderful hike with Alice and her cute as a button daughter a couple weeks ago!! Drinking delicious wine is one thing. Seeing first hand where the grapes are grown is something everyone should do and if you can, do it with Alice! She is a wonderful host. Her family's stewardship of the land is truly impressive!

These wines are the best!!! My favorite is always the one I have in my glass! Beautifully balanced Sauvignon Blanc and a very fun (and delicious) RosΓ¨ that came out this summer! The reds are beyond good! If you get the chance, message the owner and she offers a great hike/tour on the property where the grapes grow that goes over her family and the land. Very cool! Perfect variation to all the other more formal tastings out there. You will NOT be disappointed by any of the wines or by the wonderful wine maker. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ€©

Came to hike the vineyards and learn, left totally smitten and happy. Alice introduced us to Warnecke Ranch, absolutely appreciated and adored the views and really love the journey of Alice and evolution of her wines. Such an inspiring female creator with a passion to be enjoyed and a smile to treasure.

Definitely recommend coming for a tour then picking up some gorgeous wines in town for a relaxing evening.

Really adore and appreciate Alice and her creations, spirit and preservation of beauty here at Sutro Wine. Meeting Alice feels like meeting up with a good friend. A visit to the vineyards is a walk in a magical wonderland as Alice introduces you to each meticulously cared and crafted plot of vines, pointing out the microclimate and environment that cultures each wonderful flavor and character. Her investment in understanding the unique dynamic of each section is a testament to the level of comfort and flavor that her wines achieve.
I definitely cannot wait to visit again, highly recommend venturing
