Matthew has been working on small to mid scale farms since 2011. After studying at MSU within the Organic Farmer Training Program he's had experience starting a farm (and ending it!) and has worked as Giving Tree Farm's manager since 2018. Since then he's been working to cultivate Giving Tree as a resilient farm that supports CBI's rehabilitative programming.
Here at Giving Tree Farm, our mission is to provide vocational training for cognitively impaired persons within a rehabilitative environment while producing high quality produce and handmade items. In the 1990's a community garden was started for people with various disabilities to participate and learn in.
Vocational services are provided at Community Based Interventions (CBI) Giving Tree Farm. The farm is located on 22 acres of land in north Lansing and includes greenhouses, outdoor fields, a 2,400 square foot vocational activity center and a woodworking shop. The farm was developed to employ individuals with brain injuries and developmental disabilities.
The adult residential services program is comprised of three facilities developed to provide 24-hour support to individuals with traumatic brain injury and significant behavioral and cognitive disabilities. The homes are located in quiet neighborhood settings in northwest Lansing, Delta Township and East Lansing.
CBI Rehabilitation Service's Community Living Programs provide support to adults with disabilities in various apartment and residential settings in Lower Michigan. The program teaches clients daily living skills provided by trained staff and supports maintaining them in their own residence. Provide programs designed to meet the individual needs of each client that promote progress toward the least restrictive environment.
