Montelle Winery
At Montelle Winery we put great effort into selecting staff that are both knowledgeable and have a passion for wine. Our managers and tasting staff are constantly trained on not only the wines we produce, but the wines of the world. It is through this training that they are able to educate and excite our customers about the merits of our wines and how to enjoy them to their fullest.

James Hogan, our cellar master, works diligently to ensure that the wines are nurtured through each step of production and that the facilities are kept immaculately clean and sanitary. The secret to our success in producing outstanding, terroir driven wines is our vineyards. The vineyards are managed by lifelong viticulturist Paul Hopen.

Was very disappointed that the ambiance was taken away with the removal of the trees. My first thought was that nobody from Missouri would do such a thing. I was right. I did give it another try since I enjoyed the wine, but upon returning , they had painted the building yellow. This isn’t Florida, it’s the wooded countryside of Missouri. I understand there are plans are to plant vines on the hill. All, I can say is , nice try. I’ll be going to other wineries with Missouri ambiance.

Beautiful view! …but the place can be a bit tacky if you are just dropping by for one glass of wine and perhaps a slice of cheese and sausage on crackers. First, the “glass “ of wine is just a little wine in a PLASTIC CUP….the sausage and cheeses are not in slices and no knife was offered by the not very helpful help…..so we just bought a hunk of packaged cheese and tore it open with our teeth and used our fingers to tear off hunks. Be sure and bring your sheath knife or at least a pocket knife! You can buy wine glasses to put your wine in if you wish or go through the whole wine tasting

On a mini-vacation last summer, my wife and I visited Montelle Winery. The wines were outstanding, the food from the cafe was quite good, the people were great to talk to, and the view while we ate was wonderful. We brought home several bottles of their wines, and we ordered several more later in the year. And I'm getting ready to place another order as a surprise Christmas present for my wife. If you enjoy excellent wine, good food, and great people, you have to visit this place.

If you are looking for the perfect place to sip in all the fall feels, you MUST head to Montelle Winery. Perched atop what must be the tallest mountain in Missouri, Montelle Winery offers sweeping views of Augusta wine country. I was absolutely in love with the ambiance. You can see for miles, and I can only imagine how incredible the views are with all of the changing leaves.

Their patio was absolutely built as a destination. The wood structure wraps around the tasting room, built into the hillside. During our visit they had a guitar player strumming some chill vibes. It really made for an enjoyable

This place is great, the gentleman behind the bar was knowledgeable and made our tasting very enjoyable. We bought a bottle to share and ordered food and sat on the patio. The view was fantastic, the wines are very good, and the food got the spot.

They neglected to highlight the area that says dogs not allowed. It would've been nice to know that before I parked a mile away and walked my dog up there.

WOW...just by reading the reviews before and after the takeover by the Hoffmann family, I can really tell a difference of how this winery went from fantastic to absolutely horrible. I don't even know where to begin from our experience yesterday. I even changed my work schedule around so we could have some nice family time here on a sunny, fall day. Got to Montelle around noon and it was packed with people. Used the restroom when we first got there and came out to get to get a wine tasting with my dad. Was shocked at the price hike on the tastings (which went from free, to $5, $10 just last

A friend who has frequented Montelle with my wife and I many times, told me about the recent changes. We have many fond memories of our trips to the beautiful hillside. There are rumblings of investors trying to make Augusta the “new” Napa Valley and buying up properties. If Montelle is a victim of that effort, let me tell you that you have destroyed what made Montelle a favorite winery for so many to visit. The owners apparently are not in tune with their customer’s desires. Seeing the result of the “upgrade” is just sickening. The beautiful setting that has been destroyed can never

This past weekend was the first time I have been back to Montelle since it was bought by the Hoffman family. Huge disappointment.

Here is the good......
When you walk up there is the cutest vintage truck that is currently decorated in fall theme. Great for pictures! The inside of the tasting room has not changed at all. Still large and can accommodate large crowds. Oh, and let's not forget the wine slushy hut, yum!

And the not so good......
The main building has new exterior paint. Not sure why these colors were selected, not good at all. They have also brought in some "luxury

Sad and Bad! I grew up in st louis, spent 46 years here before moving but when I come back to St louis 3-5 times a year I go to the wineries and my favorite was Montelle Wineries with the view, Trees and good wine! The food was always too expensive for what you got and still is. Montelle Wineries is no longer a place I will go to. The Beautiful Trees have been ALL cut down and now there is no shade in the blistering heat of the sun. The umbrellos are worthless. This comes as no surprise when I was told the Hoffman Family bought the winery. It all made sense as he is know down in Naples

SO DISAPPOINTED!! This was always my favorite winery because of the lovely deck seating under all of the trees. They cut down all the beautiful trees!! 😭😭😭 They apparently did so for the view. But the view is hot and not nearly as nice without the trees that were by the seating. This was always where I wanted to go after church on Sundays. Now I'll be finding somewhere else to go. I'm so disappointed and upset. Poor choice Montelle! Boo!!

We used to love going here till today we come up the drive and all the trees are gone. No shade no fans people are going to have a heat stroke sitting on their deck. Super disappointing. And what is the ugly yellow color they decided to repaint the building. Truly a disappointment. Only good thing about the place is you still have a beautiful view of the valley below. Seriously what happened?

What shame Hoffman buys one of the best wineries in Missouri and cuts down the great trees that gave wonderful shade along with helping the environment and them on top of that raises the price of the wines to an outrageous price. $19.87 for a bottle of their rose that used to cost a little over $12 and that you can buy at Total Wines for $8. Won't be back.

The price on the food was absolutely insane compared to the quality of food ! We had the Buffalo chicken pizza $16 and there might have been 5 crumble size pieces of chicken on it... salad was $10 so much dressing on it u could not see the bad brown part of lettuce but it was there !
Wine ok !
$15 to taste just insane ! Music was so loud and u could not hear any words at all ! Or either their mics were dead !!!
The worst part of the visit .... Was all the beautiful huge shade trees were gone ! Completely cut down destroyed soooo sad . I have been going

Not only does this have the best view in all of Missouri that I've seen, they are not just a winery! They also have an extensive spirits collection from their distillery that they offer tastings of, all of them fantastic. Unfortunately I arrived too late to try the food, kitchen closes early on weekdays, but it sure smells good. Definitely worth going out of your way for

My mother was in town and had never been to a winery. We went to one other winery before Montelle and did not have a great experience with the wine tasting. Onto Montelle, my favorite winery. Raphael did not disappoint! He was fabulous! He took such great care of us. Now my momma knows why I love the wineries of MO. Thank you guys!

Sadly, all the trees once providing welcome shade for the deck, are gone. Not an improvement! View isn't improved but sunstroke as a possibility has! What a shame! Decent framing for a photo is lost! Will-be about 30 plus years for shade to return! Same for us! Augusta offers many more options!

Since thee Hoffman family took over ownership this winery has gone vastly down hill. Bottle prices sky rocketed, they cut down all the trees. I went on a summer day with a higher temperature and they refused to turn on the fan because "it is pretty old and we don't want to waste this unless it's for the band". Im sorry, I just paid $20 for a bottle of wine that costs $6 at Schnucks. Avoid this place at all cost. I would give them 0 stars if I could.

Great place to taste and have a bottle of great wine. The winery sits high up on a hill and has a great view towards Augusta. The deck area is huge, so finding a place to sit is easy and they usually have some live music for entertainment. The food is good and the service at the tasting bar and food counter is great. Extra bathrooms out front are pretty nice too. Love their wines.

Have visited Montelle many times in the past and really enjoyed the "tree house" experience.
We arrived on Friday, June 10. Imagine our surprise to find ALL THE TREES are gone! Cut down; not one left. Hot as blazes, no fans or misters and no air conditioned seating.
We won't be back. The whole vibe is gone. Ugg

My favorite Missouri winery! The food here is so good--try the pretzel or the pizza! They have live music pretty often! You can see the schedule on their website! The wine here is okay depending on your tastes. I'm not a big Missouri wine person and they don't allow you to bring other wine or food in which is the main downside. But out of all the Missouri wine they have the best I've had so far. They have the best views in Augusta and an amazing deck/patio with umbrellas and covered/screened in seating options. The staff are friendly and the bathrooms and overall facility are very

Our group was absolutely shocked at what the new owner/corporation has done to this winery. The owner's "singsong is just wait until we're done renovating, you'll like it much better". Well, we're sure not impressed with what has been done so far. At best removal of the beautiful trees sickened us when we saw it. Missouri is known for its trees and this outfit comes in and deforested most of the entire deck area leaving not only no shade but the ambience the trees provided is now destroyed, completely gone. Again we were absolutely shocked when we saw it. Since

I was shocked when we arrived at Montelle Winery today for relaxing afternoon of lunch, wine and music. They have completely destroyed the ambiance by virtually clear cutting the tall beautiful oak trees that surrounded and shaded the patios and decks overlooking the beautiful green valley below. Ignore ALL of the pictures in the gallery that include trees or shade. There are very few of the trees left and absolutely no shade at all. We have been going to Montelle Winery for literally decades but today was our last time. (NOTE: This place is going to be an absolute nightmare on a hot sunny day

Nice winery...very sad they deforestation the hillside of all the beautiful old trees Las month. It makes for an unobstructed view of the valley but it had a great valley view with the trees and the shade was wonderful.
Without the canopy for shade you will roast on the deck under the summer sun this year.

Now coming from CA wine country, I understand different regions of the United States have different approaches as well as the wine being served. With that said, for the area and what they bring to the table, I enjoyed my time at Montelle Winery.

Montelle leans heavier on fruit wines that are more sweet, but nothing to complain about though! They do also offer non sweet versions, but they did not wow me sadly. Jumping to the facility itself for a second, it is stunning! The back deck with a view of the valley is perfect for the warmer times of the year. We opted to sit outside with some food from

$15 tasting features very small pours of very unremarkable wines. Also they recently cut down every tree on the hillside, so the place has the ambiance of a construction site. There is plenty of outdoor seating though, and the hillside has potential.
Maybe check back in a couple years and see what their big plan for the area is?

Absolutely gorgeous views on this hillside winery. I did the tasting, which for ten dollars came with a very nice (glass!) souvenir wine glass and 5 pours. And then sat with my friend out on the porches and looked over the beautiful fall foliage while we sipped ice wine (can get by the glass). There are also plenty of snacks and crackers for sale inside to go with your alcohol purchase.
Finally, and I doubt this is a common thing they'd do for everyone, but I was especially pleased when they let me have a magnet with Missouri wine and food pairings that I found at the tasting bar, and they

Went this past weekend with a large group. Due to the nice weather, Montelle Winery was to capacity when we arrived. Which was disappointing, but we were able to wait and enter the winery.

Being from Chicago, I was not used to laxity of the COVID-19 rules. None of the workers had masks on (even the servers). No hand sanitizer in place and customers were able to walk around without masks.

The tables had signs to keep them "socially distant" distances away, but many of them were moved and combined to accommodate a larger party.

Would love to visit one day due to the amazing views

Montelle is such a fun and scenic winery to visit! Their very large deck area boasts a beautiful view of rolling hills and trees. Because the decks are built around trees, you get to enjoy some natural shades. However, if you do end up sitting where there are no trees to provide you with the shade, they do have some oversized umbrellas.

Their tasting is $5 and you get to choose 5 different wines from their selection. The bottle prices are on par with mid-priced wines from the store. They have some food you can order ranging from salads to small appetizer types to sandwiches/wraps and pizzas
