If you want a dermatological visit with a real doctor with real credentials who will competently diagnose and treat any of your issues; not a physican assistant or an "advanced practice" nurse with an alphabet soup after her name; and you're not interested in a lot of hype and pressure to get cosmetic procedures, this is the practice for you. They do do cosmetic procedures there, but only if you request information on them. You aren't barraged with fancy advertising and you do not go home with a branded bag of smelly goodies. The staff are professional, the MD is precise and thorough, and knows what he's doing, although doesn't speak a lot and has a very soft tone of voice. The facility is amazing with very good ambiance- looking immaculate.

Dr. MacGregor and team are an excellent choice for all your skincare needs. My family and I have been seen in his practice for the classics (e.g. annual cancer screening, mole removal, rash/allergy) as well as cosmetic (yay botox and ultherapy) and are always happy with the care and results. Everyone provides excellent and conscientious care. Plus the team has an A+ front office staff.

I had a great experience at my first appointment with Dr. MacGregor. I am glad I chose him after reading other favorable reviews. The overall process of becoming a patient, booking an appointment, his office staff and the doctor himself left me a happy patient.

I love coming to see Dr. MacGregor. The facilities are clean, the staff is lovely, and Doc MacGregor is really nice. He answers my questions about different procedures and I've consistently been happy with the results. I highly recommend Dr. MacGregor.

The office offers comfort and privacy, plus all staff members are polite and friendly. Dr. Macgregor is super nice and always pays complete attention to my needs. The office also offers the most spectacular views of the city, I always feel as if the experience is elating!

Visit was quick and efficient, MD was on time. The office staff is cheerful and competent. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is Dr. MacGregor’s rather stiff and impersonal manner. He was helpful and was able to address my issues, but he was a bit abrupt and there was no attempt at personal interaction. I will be going back to him if only to see if I can get a chuckle out of him.

Dr. David MacGregor is the best and Christine, his assistant is also. They are truly the "stars" of the show. Too bad people in their staff are causing them to lose patients.
I've been a patient for years and so has my husband. I even brought my sister to Dr. MacGregor and promised her she was in good hands, but for lack of courtesy from one of their staff NO ONE in my family will be returning.
It's sad that the doctors in these offices are not aware of the harm their own employees are causing them. Making them lose patients and sending them to seek treatment elsewhere

Surprised by the negative reviews that seem to focus on insurance billing or feeling rushed. I've never felt rushed to a point where I can't get my questions answered and have been going to him for over 2 years. Perhaps some patients are used to the speed at which he addresses things? I appreciate that he is efficient with time, since that means he's able to see his patients on schedule and sometimes take care of authorizing prescriptions etc.. in between. I don't recommend this doctor office for any serious skin concerns! We described an early stage of possible case of Melanoma and they try to schedule an appointment within two months! Just to educate his admins patients with these conditions have only 6 weeks before it becomes too late! Apparently they care more about patients with aesthetic and moisturizer needs!

I finally decided to write a review for David McGregor. When I went to his office, about a year ago or so, I was finally relieved that I would get an answer for my skin issues but instead, got rushed in the office, his attitude was very much arrogant, and my appointment didn't last not even 10 min and I waited more to see him than the appointment itself. I was referred to Dr. MacGregor from my esthetician. I did research and was confident i may have found a good dermatologist. Prior to booking an appointment for my skin concerns, I wanted to verify my insurance coverage. I was able to get a hold of Ariel after playing phone tag a few times. That was fine but she referred me to Karla, who should've been able to assist with coverage questions. I emailed Karla (as instructed) and followed up but no response...it's been 2 weeks. What a terrible experience thus far!

Update: after 16 days and this review, I finally got a response...

The doctor was short and I felt rushed. I was looking forward to my appointment. However I walked out feeling embarrassed about myself and my skin. The customer service is far below average. Please save yourself and go somewhere else.

Christina Tucker PA is amazing & I have zero complaints. She did not rush me and took the time to explain everything. Christina was extremely gentle and professional. The office itself is clean and pretty. I will be going to Christina for all future services. Thank you so much!

He's just the best. I think I've been going to Dr. MacGregor for close to 15 years. He was a recommendation from my general physician and I've never looked back. Really thorough skin screenings, I always see people of all age ranges in his office, so I know he's trusted by everyone who sees him, and he does cosmetic injections as well, and he does them perfectly. I always tell him to just make me look natural, and he has never let me down. He just knows what he's doing.

Office has moved up four floors to Ste. #1824, from the 14th floor, although a lot of sites are still listing the old office number.

The appointment was fine, except the PA took about 2 seconds to look at my skin. Then, when I tried to get information on the procedures, the portal was so confusing I couldn't find it. When i emailed to ask, the receptionist again gave me information that I couldn't find. I'm a fairly tech capable person and for it to be this complicated when I'm planning to spend thousands of dollars just seemed like a waste of time and money

Let's cut to the chase, this guy knows what he is doing. His physician assistant Christina has it going on too. I have been going for years to both, as I have lots of moles and a history of skin cancer. Including a family history of Melanoma, so smarts really counts for me before bedside manner. At this office, you get both.

Then, if you are interested, they can help you with any cosmetic issues you might need tended to. The rest of the medical and office staff are delightful and easy to deal with.

I've been procrastinating for years on getting some odd looking moles examined. I was referred to Christina Tucker by my PCP and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience (and my biopsy results)! Booking an appointment as a new patient was seamless, I had no wait time, the front desk staff is friendly and most of all, Christina Tucker was super knowledgeable and took the time to check all of my moles and not just those I was coming in for. She was able to put me at ease for a procedure that I dreaded for so long. Love this office!

I'm usually not a big fan of doctors, but Dr. Macgregor is awesome. Super nice and reasonable. I didn't feel like he wanted to do more work than I came in for and it was quick and painless.

6 years later... Still going to Dr, MacGregor. Even though I don't live in SF anymore, I make the effort to book appointments when I'm in the city for work. Totally trust his judgment. And now in my mid 50's, he has really helped me with the occasional skin issue, to just helping me look my best through IPL and removing/fading off all those unfortunate things that start happenning to older skin

This was my first experience getting a treatment from a dermatologist. I did not know what to expect. I had gone to another dermatologists office at 450 Sutter, and the front desk staff was so grim that I went on yelp and read reviews that were scary, I walked out!

So it was a major relief to experience the patience and kindness of Dr MacGregor's receptionist. There were complications over my insurance, and after speaking with him a few times, we figured out what i needed done was likely cosmetic so would not be covered by insurance anyhow. He quoted me a very reasonable out-of-pocket price
