Al's Attire strives to preserve bespoke quality in modern times by creating custom detailed clothes and accessories that are one of a kind. Located at the intersection of Grant and Vallejo streets in San Francisco's North Beach, Al's Attire is ready to guide you through the tailored experience. Al first opened his own shoe repair shop on Mission Street in the 1980's.
He eventually expanded through costume work and vintage alterations to build a team of designers, shoemakers, tailors, sewers, and embroiderers. Al's Attire has been open in North Beach since 1986. Over the years, Al's Attire has had the privilege of working with clients ranging from musicians to politicians.

Al's Attire is available for custom orders, from recreations of vintage designs to bespoke designs. Each custom garment includes 2 fittings. Please visit us in person to begin your custom order. After getting recommended by 3 different people, we had to stop by. Originally we were just going to take a look and talk about pricing, but but the time it was all over we had bought a custom suit, shirt, vest, shoes, and a tie! Al is extremely charismatic and such a fun character. He exudes San Franciscan energy - quirky, funny, and caring. Plus, he's a perfectionist and his dog Pepper will nudge you to play with him!

I had such a great experience at Al's Attire. They came highly recommended from boat loads of hip, respectable friends who place a high premium on vintage duds, and they did not disappoint! Al and the team were super welcoming, responsive and attentive from the first moment through the door and we had a great time shooting the breeze and pontificating on suits and custom footwear. Ultimately we put them up to designing and building a pair of custom Beatle boots for my wedding suit, and it was probably the best decision I made the whole wedding. Al and the staff are great, there is a sense of communal effort to truly provide each customer with great service. A beautifully artistic clother who are able to set one up truly from head to toe. I dropped off two partially disfigured hats and Al did a tremendous job and brought them back to to life. Thanks Al and staff.

Absolutely incredible shop custom TaylorMade clothes in the fabric of your choosing made in the United States of America very impressed not poor poor people but definitely worth the price of the quality and the tailoring very nice people we didn't buy me things and everybody in the store the three people that works there were very kind I highly recommend this place if you have ample resources. as far as custom-made clothes I do believe the prices are very much in line with the market maybe even reasonable for what service they are providing. I'll be back.

This is the place to go when you want high quality shoes and apparel done the right way. Everyone here (Renee, Christian, Al and I am forgetting the names of the two women, shame on me), is so helpful and realistic. I originally came in to try things on and ended up getting tailoring and custom shoes, but since I am going through Identity Theft, Al's gave me the benefit of the doubt and took my order anyway. Then, they let me come in out of the rain when I needed boots and we found excellent boots that fit. When the sole of the boots was soaked it became delaminated, so they fixed my boots too

If you had told me these items, especially the hat, could be replicated, I would say no way
I spoke to several custom clothing shops and they all said no, go talk to Al
Not only did they said yes, we can make these things but I could make improvements, such as fabric that was prone to less wrinkles, different colors, remove features I didn't want
So I am waiting for the estimate for 2 jackets, 1 pair of shoes and 3

Wonderful experiences here with the friendly customer service and very masterful final results of the tailoring done to my (extraordinary) men's:
- sport coat which had (hard to align) horizontal stripes.
- coat (and vest) w/ metallic gold flecks
The cost was extremely reasonable. My "other" master tailors were hesitant to tackle the jobs. Al, Juliet and Sarah (?name?) were a joy to work with. I couldn't be happier. My lady friend and I will return for bespoke clothes and shoes.

So disappointed. Long story short, I paid $200 and waited 5 weeks to basically get my same crappy boots I brought in. Thanks Al!

I haven't purchased clothes here in a while but I stopped by recently and was reminded how great Al's is. Quality clothing like this is expensive compared to clothes from a dept store but Al's clothes and shoes are well worth it.
Al shot the sh*t with me for a while and gave me some great advice towards enhancing an otherwise stale wardrobe.

This was absolutely the worst experience I have ever had with any sort of tailor. To sum it up: Horrible customer service, terrible quality (looks threads and stiching everywhere), incompetent at measurements, lying about pricing and charging you more than promised, complete rip-off as compared to other custom attire shops, and the final product turned out nothing like the specs and did not even FIT ME.
First, they lie to you about pricing by quoting you a lower price and then, after you've invested time and energy into your first fitting, they jack the actual price up from the estimate.

If you want any alterations done expect to wait months before seeing your garment again.
I got my most favorite vintage jacket tailored here and I had to call in twice to ask about when it was done. First time they said a month and a half. After a month and a half I called in and they said 2 weeks. 2 weeks later they said 2 more weeks. Once I got it it was too tight in the arms and chest. I've never brought anything to them after that experience. I now go to another tailor that charges half the price, does a better job and has a 1 week turnaround.

I cannot properly state how amazing Al's Attire is without using nearly every positive adjective there is known to humankind. The jacket that I had custom made for me by Deidre is stunning and I will treasure it always. Not only is the product amazing, but their attention to detail and care for their patrons is unmatched. Leather for days and customization options as far as you can imagine. Perfectly tailored jackets and shirts, staffed by people who know fabrics, fit and form.

I'd been looking for a camel coat for the past 2 winters. If I found one I liked, either it wasn't available in my size, or it was exorbitantly expensive. I finally decided to have one custom made for me. At Al's Attire.
From the very beginning, it was a smooth experience. We first discussed what I wanted. I then booked an appointment for a fitting & to go over all the details. Picking the cut, the fabric, the lining, the buttons, etc. This was actually the first time I've ever had anything custom made

Al's Attire is a great fun place! and their new joint is pretty cool. Al and everyone working there are true artist!! really good quality of work. I had a hat made from scratch and had Al work on my leather jacket. But as my pops says "Al's is great but this is not the place to go if you are having a wedding dress made on time"
